Thanks for this, but I thought I had made it clear that I already implemented the changes I wanted in the Normal template, then imported the relevant styles into the `old' document I was working on. The main style elements were intact (font, paragraph, etc) but not the hot keys. This is in Vista ...

Hot keys not saved
I opened the Normal template, assigned hot keys to various heading levels in the Styles dialog, and saved the template. But the next time I opened the program and imported the Normal styles to the document I wanted to work on, the hot-key assignments had all been wiped out. What's going on here ...

Thanks for responding. I'm pleased to say I had already managed to figure out the bit about moving all my favourite commands onto two toolbars before I read your post.
