Why is such a good word processor made complicated by such seemingly useless features as what is in some of the drop down menus?. Eg. As in the insert menu.
Special symbol. Dots??? Long Dash??? Etc etc etc surely these can be placed in a document ten time as fast using the keyboard
Is there a way to remove these pointless features from the drop down menu so as to make it more user friendly?
Useless features
I think that's the thing - to have menu/mouse-driven options for those whop need them, and to offer customisable keyboard shortcuts for those of us who prefer them. Atlantis does quite well, IMHO.Matt C. wrote: Personally, I seldom use special symbols and when I do, I never remember how to call them up from the keyboard. I'm delighted to have them available on the menu.
The point I am trying to make is an eg. Dots in the pull down menue, surely 3 presses on the full stop key is just as effective and ten times faster.maxqnz wrote:I think that's the thing - to have menu/mouse-driven options for those whop need them, and to offer customisable keyboard shortcuts for those of us who prefer them. Bad example. :)The point I am trying to make is an eg. Dots in the pull down menue, surely 3 presses on the full stop key is just as effective and ten times faster.
An ellipsis, the "three dots" you mention, is NOT three presses on the full stop key. Try it. Select the "dots" on the menu, and then, directly underneath, press the fullstop key three times. You will see a noticeable difference, which is as it should be. I only recently learned that an ellipsis is not simply "three dots." IMO, it's another plus for Atlantis that it gets even such a minor technical point exactly correct.

First dots using pull down menu
Second dots using 3 presses of full stops
These were cut and pasted from Atlantis

The ellipsis took up much less space than the three dots (which, thanks to this thread I know use the kyboard shortcut for). This is as it is supposed to be, according to an English Grammar manual I read recently. A temporary, unrepeateable quirk apparently. C'est la vie. :oops:maxqnz wrote:The point I am trying to make is an eg. Dots in the pull down menue, surely 3 presses on the full stop key is just as effective and ten times faster.

When you press "." three times, the AutoCorrect of Atlantis replaces these three dots with a single ellipsis.
You could insert ellipsis by pressing Ctrl+Alt+.
Alternatively if the AutoCorrect of Atlantis is enabled, you could press the fullstop key three times.

This depends on your current font face & size. In most cases, the "ellipsis" character takes up less space than the three ordinary dots indeed.
Well, Atlantis uses a slightly confusing terminology. The Insert | Symbol | Dots menu command should be Insert | Symbol | Ellipsis. This will be changed. Thanks.
