Macros

Post by TBear »

I too would like to see a macro capability.

One example of many: I want to create macros which would allow me to open one or more files.

A few days ago I stumbled across an early free version of Atlantis (Nova). I've been a beta tester for a number of programs for more years than I would like to admit  (eg., the Opera browser) Within days I purchased a copy of the current version

Guys, you have done one hell of a job. The amount of care, thought, attention, user configurability, effective help files (and a search capability for it which I've not seen before -- AND/OR...) You take my breath away.

In short, two words with much feeling: Thank you.

Greetings--
Have you tried drag & drop from Windows Explorer (or from any other file manager) to the Atlantis title bar?
Also working documents are automatically reopened if you do not close them before shutting down Atlantis. You only have to check "Reload open documents at startup" on the "Load/Save" tab of the "Tools | Options..." dialog.

Thanx for the reply, Robert.

I haven't tried the drag and drop.ٲ But more often than not, that is what I'll want to avoid. The "project" file(s) I want to import often have long paths, and may even be in different directories. That could be a tedious approach.

Re the "Reload Open". . . Yup, I'm familiar with that one. But that too could become cumbersome, especially when you're working on a number of "open" or on-going "projects".

A separate "favorites" file category -- not unlike the "Recent Documents" option would be another solution.

For the time being, I'm using the "Clip Library" as a temporary solution. I've created folders named for each "project" (for want of a better term). Each one has the full path to the file(s) I'm using for that particular "project" or "item". I open the folder(s), copy the paths, then retrieve the files. Awkward, but at least I don't have to go mucking about in Explorer each time to find the file/files I want to import.

Why not use the Atlantis "Favorites" folder to store shortcuts to your project files?
Simply click "File | Favorites > Organize Favorites..." and use the "Add Documents..." button to create shortcuts to all your project files. Rename each shortcut in any suitable way. You could have "Project File 1", "Project File 2", "Project File 3", etc.
Note that your Atlantis "Favorites" folder can have subfolders. You can use the "View Favorites Folder..." button in the Atlantis "Organize Favorites" dialog to open the folder in Windows Explorer and create subfolders in it. You could have a "Project Files" subfolder in your Atlantis "Favorites Folder".

If your projects do not include many documents, you could create shortcuts (on your Windows Desktop or somewhere else) with the following command-line:

"C:\Program Files\Atlantis\Atlantis.exe" "document_1 filename" "document_2 filename" ... "document_N filename"

Double-clicking such a shortcut would open all the documents belonging to the corresponding project.

Greetings–
Here is another possibility to launch several files together in Atlantis.
This is a tip I got 3 years ago from the author of xplorer² (excellent alternative dual pane file manager). This is more easily done in a dual pane file manager, but you can do it in Windows Explorer all the same. Here are the steps:

1. Open 2 instances of Windows Explorer and tile the 2 windows vertically.

2. In the left window, create a folder called "My Bookmarks" (or any other suitable name like "My Favorites"). I have personally created it under my "D:" drive so I have "D:\My Bookmarks" as a storage folder.

3. In the Windows Explorer window on the right, open any folder where you currently have "project" file(s).

4. Use the mouse right button and drag & drop from the right window to the left in order to create shortcuts to your project files in the left folder (the "Bookmarks" folder).

5. In the left window (the "Bookmarks" folder), rename each shortcut in any suitable way. You could have "Project File 1", "Project File 2", "Project File 3", etc.

6. Renew steps 3 through 5 above for each of the folders where you have project file(s).

You now have a single folder containing shortcut names to all your various project files. You can select any or all of these shortcuts, and use drag & drop to open the corresponding documents in Atlantis.

Bloody showoff! I missed that one :)

Yup, in this instance that's just what I was looking for. I'm already using it. Many thanks, Robert. (But I still want my macros {chuckling})

Thanx, guys. I do something like that for a TextPad project. I'd already set one up for Atlantis, but tend to dislike the proliferation of multiple icons for one program. Then I caught Robert's message about Atlantis' "Favorites", hid under my desk, smacked my head, and started playing.

I do something similar to that when I want to have a reference to a file in more than one location. Eg., I might have a number of reference files saved under, say, C:\HTML\REFERENCES\DOCTYPES.

But I might want to access one of those files from some other directory on a different drive in which I'm regularly working. That type of shortcut makes it easy to find the file, while eliminating the need to keep two copies of the same file in sync.
