in Atlantis 1.5.4. one can visit the web site without any problem. The browser is oaded immediately with the proper page. It is, however, impossible to use the option "check for updates". If one does so, one gets the message that one has to be online and to try again when one is online. My pc is connected to the internet with ADSL, so I am always online.

checking for update
I do not understand the question of a firewall. If I wam in Atlantis I can visit the web site without any problem., but I cannot cxheck for updates. I do not see what difference a firewal could make here.
When you click hyperlinks in Atlantis, Atlantis does not visit any Web sites itself. Your default Web browser does. Atlantis might be not allowed to access Web on your system. You might need to adjust settings of your firewall (if it can be customized separately for different applications). This is what I meant.

Atlantis and access to the Web
I do not have a firewall. At least not as far as I know. I can get on the Web from any program with a hyperlink to a web page. The problem is that I cannot check for updates of Atlantis, a possibility offered in the Help menu. From another possibility in that menu "Atlantis on the Web" I get to thatr web page without any problem. There is no question about making sure that I am connected to the internet.
Erik, if you have an always on ADSL internet connection, you ought to use a firewall.
If you use WinXP, at the very least activate the built in firewall until you get a decent firewall, ie ZoneAlarm or Sygate. I have used the free version of ZoneAlarm since it was released. It is easy to use and provides excellent protection.

That you are able to visit Web sites simply means that Internet Explorer is allowed to connect to the Internet.
That you are unable to check for updates from the Atlantis GUI means that Atlantis might not be allowed to access the Internet on your system.
This is often due to a firewall.
Are you sure that your antivirus does not include some kind of firewall or added security?
Are you sure that ZoneAlarm or a similar product is not running on your system? In which case, they would restrict outbound traffic (from Atlantis to our Web site).
Another potential reason is that you might not have Administrative Rights on your computer. In which case, you might not be allowed to update software on your system.
Cheers,
Robert

Thanks for reporting this. A fix will be included to the next release of Atlantis. It should be available for betatesting soon (in a few next days).Erik de Vreede wrote: The problem is that I cannot check for updates of Atlantis, a possibility offered in the Help menu.
