Tables? Footnotes?

Post by John Stafford »

Hi: the latest beta has certainly brought nice existing features along, but I wonder if there is any reasonable expectation for tables and/or footnotes in this or perhaps the next release. I mention this because Abi Word does seem to have achieved both, as well as offering a start on WordPerfect filters, and Abi is free. I think most Atlantis users really love the program - I certainly do - but tables/footnotes are key, I think.

Also, a means to more accurately locate an image on a page would also be a real enhancement for me.

Best wishes. John

Hi, John

You can already use columns and section breaks in Atlantis to place a picture about anywhere you fancy. It requires a bit of effort, but it can be done.

To place pictures more easily and more automatically would require ... frame and table support.

Have you ever wondered why Abi and a few other word processors are free? Have you ever wondered why people would create a good software, then give it away for free? Would you give away a good software if you could make money out of it? Do you think that these people are philanthropists, John?

I think that you should ask yourself why these people give away what should be years of hard dedicated work? Why not take a close look at what these software are actually offering? Have you actually tried to USE them for any substantial period of time?

If you did, you might find out that they have no more value than the money people pay for them.

Cheers

All major features offered by the top-end word processors, will be implemented in Atlantis in the future. Please be patient.

I love this program. It?s worth every single penny, and some. Congratulations guys! The Portuguese Speller, for example, it is as good as the established word processors. A thesaurus, of course, would make it even better.

As desperately as I want Footnotes, Tables and Label templates, I wonder every time something is added that it doesn't contribute to the bloat like those "top-end" word processors have, and from which we all ran. I'm not sure if Catch-22 translates...

If you think that Atlantis is bloatware, you should take a long hard look at the competition.
Also features that you don't use, others might...
Unlike the competition, you can remove most elements from the Atlantis toolbars, you can remove most items from the Atlantis menus, you can customize about everything to your liking in Atlantis.
Let's be honest, does this make Atlantis bloatware?
Cheers

No! That is NOT what I was saying. What I meant to say, perhaps very poorly, was that if you keep giving us everything we want, maybe Atlantis will then become bloated and turn into that which we all ran away from, the 'high end' wprocessors. I was NOT accusing my wonderful Atlantis of being bloated. On the contrary!

Then let's just hope that we can keep up the good work and please everybody in the end...
But pray be patient. Even if it does not look like it, behind every click that you give in Atlantis, there are hours, sometimes even weeks or months of hard dedicated work.
We are a small team and as we all know Rome wasn't built in a day.
