Tables

Post by Guest »

I completely agree! I must say that much of the MS Word 12 functions I see them also in Atlantis! So Atlantis really is an advanced word processor, that, in some aspects, lies MS Word 12 ahead! For that reason, and for the simplicity and yet many very well designed options, I prefer to use Atlantis over Word 12.

I am sorry to say, and I hope not to offend you, but the real main reason that I still use Word 12 most of the time is the lack of table functionality within Atlantis.

Also from the compatibility point of view - the conversion of .DOC and .DOCX (Word 12) files - it would be fine and in fact necessary if Atlantis would be able to handle tables.

Would it be possible to change your development/feature priority a bit, and put the table functionality on the top of the things-to-do?

Again, I hope you don't feel offended in any way by being so open hearted to you; I just express what I think it should be present in the next version of Atlantis!

I hope to hear from you soon!

Many kind regards,

Paul

Hi Admin,

I'm very glad to hear this! Can you give an indication when this will be? Will it be in about 6 months, a year, of 5 years?

Again: thank you for confirming and your reply!

Kind regards,

Paul

Greetings--
You can "block" columns very easily if you use next page section breaks each time your columns get close to the bottom of the page(s). This is about as good as tables.
Carefully adjusted tabs can also help build mock tables. This is how "tables" were built in the old days with pure text editors.
All this requires a little extra work, but it helps me get by most of the time when I cannot use tables as such.
Cheers

columns vs. tables

Post by beigmk »

Any trick is allowed - but tables are known in every wordprocessor, any html-version...

Make ist real - no promises! And please allow to place pix where you want it - without using tables, columns or other tricky things. Atlantis will become great by featuring these options.

See you

Time until update.

It has been a while since it was said that we Atlantis fans might recieve table support before the end of 2006, so I'm asking for any new information on whether or not we should still hope for table support by 2006's conclusion. I like Atlantis a lot more than TextMaker, but TextMaker is looking more and more attractive as an alternative to work, since it supports tables and costs students less than 15 USD/Euros. TextMaker doesn't compare to Atlantis for how it lacks some of the wonderful features of Altantis, but TextMaker does support Unicode text from other languages (like Japanese, Chinese, and Korean) as well as the table support I need to get by in my daily activities. I look forward to some information on how long I'll have to fight the urge to purchase a word processor while I wait for the one I like to get support for tables (an hopefully OLE objects).

Sorry, but we could not tell you any definite date.
You would be notified of any new release of Atlantis Word Processor if you subscribe to the Atlantis Mailing List.
If you urgently need to decide which word processor to buy, and if TextMaker completely fits your needs, you should buy it.

I appreciate the quick response. I'll consider purchasing TextMaker, but it isn't a perfect fit. Atlantis with tables would be, so I'll try to wait as long as possible. An exact date isn't what I was looking for, but some encouragement that "It will probably be out before the new year" would be a welcomed bit of refreshing progress report.

Just forget about tables — they will NEVER be here

Here we go...
It has been three years we hear the litany. Atlantis will.. will.. will.. and so on. I no longer wonder if it ever does instead of will. I installed MS Word XP even though it sux.

The history of the tables feature user request clearly shows that they will never be implemented:

Tables? Mar 16, 2001
table support? Oct 15, 2003
Tables? Footnotes? Feb 04, 2004
tables Mar 06, 2004
These tables is so important!!! Jul 27, 2004

just TWO years ago after another THREE years of useless waiting. FIVE years and a half total — need we wait more to realize it is hopeless?

Too bad…

The end of 2006 is coming… Somehow I am sure that the above is not a true statement, to put it mildly.

tables

Post by VJF »

I still miss tables.
There are some work-arounds, but mostly that is no solution.

Do you think, with Admin ("admin wrote: Possibly tables will be available before the end of 2006.") they will come?

I hope, it is no rethorical question.

Furthermore, no wishes. And besides tables, Atlantis is the best.

Really? Were you a geology major? Because it's been quite a while and this market could really use an alternative with Atlantis qualities but the feature set isn't what it needs to be to play in the big leagues.
