Has Atlantis died a death
Has Atlantis died a death
Has Atlantis died, no new topics, no new features, dear me, come on all you Atlantis lovers lets hear from you like in the old days, this used to be the first page of my internet nights viewing, Home page has not been updated since 3rd August ???
Re: Has Atlantis died a death
I agree, it's gone rather quiet. The problem may be that while Atlantis is one of the most visually attractive word processors to work with, the more one uses it, the more the lack of basic functionality becomes apparent. There are indeed some very nice features but can you keystroke a hanging indent? Keyboard sound schemes are nice but I really want to have a header/footer, or footnote, or perhaps the ability to page adjust margins. That, for me, is basic functionality. I think that Atlantis has really scored on the interface and the features it does have - I was an early customer,(although who can remember the vast array of keystrokes available?), and customization is also good, but having the cursor take on the formatting of the prevailing font seems a little odd. I think the time has now arrived where Atlantis has to move into the area of strong functionality. My point is that programs like AbiWord can offer three columns, as well as headers and it's free. Seems to me that Atlantis should do this to remain in the game. John :-/

I see that you expect 2 or 3 new releases of Atlantis a month...

I afraid this is impossible. Atlantis is developed as quickly as possible.

The 4th release will be available this month (October).

I'm pretty much with you on this, John. I bought Ocean Mind on day one, to support Atlantis, which I had been using for over a year. The bells and whistles we have been given are cute, but headers/footers and columns would really make Atlantis a serious contender. I hope that major improvements of substance will now assume a higher priority than some of the "ornamental" improvements we've seen recently. I still use Ocean Mind for around 80% of my WP needs, but that other 20% is annoying. Give me the "holy trinity" of headers, footers and columns, and Atlantis would be all I would ever have to use.John_Stafford wrote:
I really want to have a header/footer, or footnote, or perhaps the ability to page adjust margins.

Who needs 24 ways to date a document ??? basic functionality is most important. This could be the most important word processor around. Bells and whistles are nice to look at but of no real use at all.Max_Quordlepleen wrote:

I'm pretty much with you on this, John. Come on people, stop whining. This is still a great program. If you want all the bells and whistles, go back to Microsoft, Wordperfect or whatever you use. I bought this program because I needed a simple word processor to address 90% of my needs. It does this in both an effective and entertaining manner. I like the sound effects. If I didn't I would have turned down the sound.

My compliments to the Atlantis crew for a providing me with a great program.

Yes we are whining but for a good reason, I want one excellent word processor and not many to do the work I require, and I believe Atlantis may be the one, columns headers and footers must be added to make it number one, then and only then can I remove word.

e]

I don't think we are whining. I am a big fan of Atlantis, and those of us who have posted have simply expressed a desire to see it get even better. We are not asking for more bells and whistles, we are asking for some basic word-processing functionality to be added. That is not a complaint, but a legitimate user request. I admire the work the development team have done to date, but feel that user feedback can play a role in helping the developers to establish priorities for future releases. To make suggestions for improving an already good product should not be seen as complaining, IMHO.k9hugh wrote:
Come on people, stop whining.

My compliments to the Atlantis crew for a providing me with a great program.

what I like
Just discovered Atlantis. I have long searched for a Window's writing app that can do a full screen with a dark background, like WordPerfect for Dos!!
Thanks. And the keyboard functionality stops me from mouseing. Instead I type.
Re: Has Atlantis died a death
Things take time to develop. I'm fairly happy with Atlantis. It IS aggravating to have to use another, bloated wordprocessor in order to get a header, though. As a person who makes their living writing novels and short stories, the ability to create a header with page numbering would allow me to uninstall that other word processor from my computer. Every word processor ought to feature header/footer capability. It isn't bloat, it's necessity. ;D
Re: Has Atlantis died a death
I eagerly await the new release.
Re: Has Atlantis died a death
Could we have the sdw-format of the StarWriter too? There are some people using this program on one pc, but need a small word processor to work with e. g. on a laptop.
Just call me the Prince
Re: Has Atlantis died a death
Maybe it will be supported one day...

What about the support of header/footer and table of contents ?

When do you plan to deliver a release with these features ?

Thanks in advance

Re: Has Atlantis died a death
I was pretty excited when I discovered Atlantis. Spent about 2 hours with the demo, picked up the phone and bought it, despite the fact it does not have headers and footers. Being a writer, I must have those. However, I felt I could use another WP until Atlantis included the promised H&F.

Now, after reading the many requests for H&F going back to at least before the October release, and finding there was another release in December of last year, I've come to the conclusion that I just blew my money. I will start looking for a real WP.

A "word processor" without headers and footers is nothing but a letter writer!

Sandman
Re: Has Atlantis died a death
I already posted this to the Forum many times. I could do this again.

Support for headers/footers is scheduled for future releases of Atlantis. The next minor version of Atlantis will support so called document sections (including multicolumn sections). Support for document sections is required for implementing headers/footers.
Re: Has Atlantis died a death
well this place may be quiet sometimes but Atlantis is alive, on my machine anyway

Even the difficulty I had with a foreign language display is somehow gone, I used to complain about it and was told there is nothing wrong with it, the other day I noticed it works now, it must have been fixed in one of the releases.... thx

its coming, we'll get the headers and footers in due time

V
Out with it...

Re: Has Atlantis died a death
I honestly don't think Atlantis has died any. I wish actually I could run it on my Linux system. I would love to have a go at porting, but it would be a bit of a job keeping one at the same development as the other if they are different code/programming languages as each other.
