Page Numbering Question

Post by Lambert John »

When entering a page number, as in Insert | Page Numbers | OK, I'm taken immediately into the footer view. I presume this is so I can edit or add to the page number. That's all fine and well, but I don't like to have to close out the footer before I can get back to my document. Is there a way around this? All I want to do is add page numbers and go on with my day. No fuss. No muss.

Last question, and still related to page numbering. When I add a page number, there seems to be a shaded area around the actual number. Kind of like a light grey box. Do it and you'll see what I'm talking about. This is very minor, but is there any way to display the page number with no shaded box around it?

Thanks for your help.

There is no way round this. You have to close the footer area first. Footers belong to a different layer of the document structure. But you only have to insert page numbering once. After that, each page is automatically numbered by Atlantis.

In word processors, page numbers are traditionally inserted as self-updating fields. And fields are also traditionally displayed with grey shading for easy identification. But you can switch this shading off:

1. Click “Tools | Options…” and display the “View” tab.
2. Pull down the “Field shading” menu and select whichever option suits you best:

a. Never
b. When the “Special Symbols” mode is on.
c. Always

I personally think that the second option is best because field shading will only show when it’s really needed, that is when you switch the “Special Symbols” mode on.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Thanks for your help. I got the field shading issue resolved. Now it displays like I want it to. I appreciate the tip.
