Drop-down menus in full-screen mode

When I press F9 to go into full-screen mode, I can still access Atlantis' drop-down menus by moving my mouse pointer up to the top left-hand side of the screen, and then clicking in the general area of where a particular menu is. Try it and see. They're there, but only as tiny slivers of black. You have to actually click on a sliver to get the drop-down menu to come down.

Why not just have the entire menu bar appear when the mouse pointer enters that particular part of the screen? And of course disappear when the mouse pointer leaves that part of the screen. Word 2003 works this way; you get the full-screen view like you do in Atlantis, but you also get the drop-down menus whenever you move the mouse pointer to the top left-hand area of the screen.

I mean, if they are there anyway, why not make them a bit more accessible to us? Just a thought. Unless of course, there's some kind of switch in Atlantis that already lets you do this. If that's the case, please pardon the fruitless post.

Hi,

When you click the top area, one of the main menus drops down.
The other menus are displayed by running the mouse pointer to the left or right over the same area. So any one of these menus is accessible with one single mouse click and maybe a little glide.
Note that the menus are displayed until you give another mouse click or press the Esc key.

Uh, well, that's kind of what I said in my post. So no, that didn't help. My point is, why make us hunt for obscure "hints" of a menuing system, when it could simply become visible when the mouse approaches the top, left-hand side of the screen? In other words, exactly how Word 2003 works. But no matter, your method works; I've always done it that way. I'm just suggesting a better way. That's why I posted it where I did.

Here is a different approach. The menus won't become visible when the mouse approaches the top of the screen, but they'll always be visible:

Click "Tools | Options... > View"

Under "Full Screen" mode hides, uncheck "Main Menu".

Is this any better?

By the way, things no longer work in this way in Word 2007. The main menus are no longer available in full screen mode.

Thanks for pointing the switch out. That's all I was looking for. No, it doesn't quite work like I was hoping it would, but it will do.

As for Word 2007, I don't remember saying anything about Word 2007. My original post was directed at Word 2003. Not sure where you got that from.

I neither said nor implied that you said something about Word 2007. I merely pointed out the fact that these menus were no longer available in full screen mode in Word 2007. Most likely, the MS developers thought there was not much use for them.
