I-Beam Text Select problem

Post by Lambert John »

I've got my Atlantis screen set to blue. No problem there. However, the mouse pointer, or what I refer to as the text select I-beam, is black and very difficult to see. Anyone out there know how to change it to white so I can see it moving around the screen?

Thanks so much!

Hi,
If I use the original Atlantis "Color Scheme" named "Deep Blue", the insertion cursor is white. The contrast is quite good.
But you can easily change the color used to display the insertion cursor. It is displayed with the same color value as the "Special Symbol" characters.
If you display the "Tools | Options... > Colors" tab, you'll be able to change the color used for the insertion cursor by changing the color used for the "Special Symbol" characters.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Robert

Are you sure that the mouse pointer is black? The I-beam pointer is neither black nor white. It inverts colors under it. So under the "Deep Blue" color scheme, it should look yellow. The same regarding the blinking caret.

Neither Robert's or Admin's solution worked. I have selected the deep blue color scheme. My blinking cursor is indeed yellow as Admin has suggested, but my I-beam is black and very thin. It's like something is overriding the default Atlantis setting.

I did fail to mention that I've gone into Control Panel under Mouse|Pointers and selected the Windows Extra Large System Scheme (pointers). I wonder by doing that, did I override the Atlantis settings?

Just to test my theory, I reset all my mouse settings back to the normal scheme. But that didn't work either. I still have only a black I-beam within the blue Atlantis work area.

It's no big deal guys; I'll live with it. The Atlantis sounds don't work with my Vista machine either, so I'm learning to smile and suck it up. I do appreciate all your help however. Take care.

Beyond selecting the Deep Blue Color Scheme, did you try using a different color for the Special Symbols? You could try bright yellow or white.
Please, let us know if it makes any difference.

Hi,
Some people have improved the display of their I-Beam cursor by changing the background color. You could use a slightly different hue of blue. For example, you could use RGB 0,0,64 or RGB 0, 0, 120.

Other people with similar problems have had some luck after updating their Windows Vista system with the latest MS patches for Vista. You could have a look at the following MS pages:

Hope this helps.
