Creating a book chapter or article template

Post by JohnKS »

Hi: I would like to create a template for book chapters or articles. The layout should look like this:

First page
has chapter title, large top margin, no header or footer, bottom centre page number.

Subsequent pages should automatically revert to the default page layout which has equal margins when th cursor moves past the end of the first page. Plus subsequent pages will have different headers for odd and even pages.

I'm pretty sure I can do this in Atlantis. Do I use sections to achieve this or page styles?

Appreciate the help.

There are plenty of possible layouts. I do not know what exactly you need. But please take a look at the attached sample document. Each chapter in this document is a separate section. All the sections are separated with the "Next page" section breaks. The first paragraph in each section is formatted with the "Heading 1" style. The paragraph format of this style includes a large spacing before and after paragraph so that any "Heading 1" paragraph is always the only paragraph that can be displayed on a given page. The first page of each section displays "First page header" and "First page footer". Subsequent pages display different headers and footers for odd and even pages.
In order to create a new chapter, you only need to click after the last character of the current chapter, then insert a new section break through the "Insert | Break | Section Break | Next Page" menu command. Then apply the "Heading 1" style to a newly created blank paragraph through the "Style" toolbar drop-down box, type the title for a new chapter, and press Enter to create the first blank paragraph of the chapter body. After this just type the body text of this new chapter.

Of course, you can change the formatting of any style in this document through the "Format | Style…" menu command, and edit the headers/footers in any way you wish.

Is this what you meant?
