Explanation of newly introduced features of AOM

Post by Van »

The last feature - "Enable click and type" - had me scratching my head ??? for a bit, the way it is described on Atlantis' website did not give me much understanding as to what we really have here.

After a while, I figured out that this feature really doesn't do anything else that one couldn't do by judicious placing of left, right and center tabs in the ruller which would be a slower way of achieving all the effects of this new 'Enable click and type' feature. Am I right about this?

Van

The "Click & Type" is extremely simple in understanding. Double-click the desired open area of your document, and start typyng immediately.

What is not clear, Van?

Yes, the "Click & Type" might apply different formatting to place the caret at the point where you wished to start typing. But again: you might have not to care about this. Yes, you could do this manually. As well as you could create your document without using your computer. But the main purpose of any software (including word processors) is to simplify your work, to allow you to do a better job with less efforts.

Is not this great?

It crossed my mind when when I wrote my original post that it might be interpreted as some slighting of this feature... you make it look as if I am against computers, technology as such ...
However I did not mean it like that. Do I have to say this????

What I was after was understanding, seeing that this new feature is not something magic (I dont't like magic in the way apps work or anything else).

I simply did not get the talk about 'open spaces of document' - their definition. I started to understand what you are talking about only after I opened ruller and saw that every 'click and type' action, a tab or caret as you say (is that different?) got inserted in the ruler. Then I finally began to understand the feature and the concept of 'open spaces' which was obscure to me originally.

Of course its way better to do this stuff by 'click and type' than making ruller visible first and adding a caret there. I am not disputing this at all - on the contrary.

I just thought that many people might have similar difficulty understanding what its all about this new feature and what people don't understand, they usually don't use. Its that simple. However I am not concerned about other people but about my own understanding.

The talk of 'open spaces' was entirely new to me, maybe its completely new concept, then maybe not. Maybe Word has it, the last Word I used was ver. 5 I think.

Van

>The talk of 'open spaces' was entirely new to me

An open area, or a blank area, is an area where there are no text.

The caret and a tab are not the same. The caret is a blinking line indicating where a newly typed character would be inserted to.

The tab character is a special symbol that has nothing to do with the caret.
