1.6.5.8.beta erratic cursor problem

Post by Sentosa »

This weekend I installed Atlantis to a different computer using Win XP SP3 and all updates. I plan to use this notebook solely for writing using Atlantis.

I'll say at the outset that I think the problem I'm about to describe is likely to relate more to my computer than to Atlantis because I've encountered it when using the current beta and the current public release.

I open an existing document (97K words) and edit it. During the edits, I type some characters and then the cursor randomly moves up or down and places the remaining text where at the cursor's new position.

I'm sure this is a computer problem rather than an Atlantis issue, but I hope someone has encountered this problem and can suggest a solution.

Hi,
Laptops and notebooks often have mouse cursor problems. Atlantis is the most unlikely culprit.
The usual solutions involve updating/changing the mouse driver, and/or tweaking the various mouse settings (buttons, pointer, wheel settings) until the problem is solved.
And sometimes a new mouse will work just fine where the old one simply would not. :)
HTH.
Cheers,

You are correct Robert. I discovered my error just after I posted.

Apparently the driver for the touch pad (used when I reconfigured the notebook) was corrupt and was not displayed in the Control Panel.

I downloaded a replacement driver for the touch pad, installed it, and then disabled the touch pad when a mouse is detected.

Sorry I didn't get back in time to stop you from wasting your time, but many many thanks,
