Issues with portable mode

Portable mode was a prerequisite for my buying decision. I followed the instructions and it runs fine from my USB stick.

However, on some host machines it leaves data on the logged-on user account. I have to manually clean up after Atlantis and always remember to sync that stuff back to my stick. Then at home, when I sync it to my own user account of the installed version, there are still things missing. Cannot figure out where it stores certain settings, such as, say, Color Schemes?

Have also tried to copy the whole portable folder back and forth, but that makes no difference. Some things always end up getting lost upon syncing from stick to hard drive and back again.

In addition, some paths seem to get hard-wired. How do I make Atlantis save my Favorites-links in a portable fashion?

Have you tried to import settings back through the “Load from File…” button in “Tools | Options…” (“General” tab)? Of course, the file to use is the “Atlantis.ini” file located on the USB stick.

works nicely. An additional chore after each sync, browsing for the ini-file etc. - but I can live with that.

Concerning the other issues - here's what I found out:

Atlantis has problems running from encrypted volumes and also from external drives that are plugged into docking bays, where the drive shows up as a regular drive letter, not flagged as "removable". Well, "problems" is the wrong word, it works nicely, but without telling you it will leave residues on the host computer and behave as if it were installed, which is not the case.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Workarounds? Alternatives?

External drives that are plugged into docking bays are configured as fixed disks by Windows. As far as I know, nothing flags them as removable drives. I am afraid Atlantis cannot second-guess Windows about this…

This is bad news. So bad that it should be mentioned on the website, because it is very unusual. I own quite a lot of portable software, they all install into a folder of my choice, and this tells the software to use relative paths and store all settings in subfolders. Easy to sync the whole enchilada in one go, without additional launches of the software, "Load ini-file" etc etc

What am I to do now?
1) Install my license on foreign machines - not legal and not always possible, due to restricted user rights
2) Always ask for on-board access to a direct USB plug, then run Atlantis from a non-encrypted drive volume? Ignoring all privacy issues and running the risk of exposing all my templates, addressbook etc to whoever gets hold of my stick.

Very unfortunate. Atlantis is not as widespread as MS Word, unlikey to find it installed by default. I think it is especially important for a software like this to be portable, truly portable.

Atlantis Word Processor 4.2.1 (and higher) does not store its settings in the Windows Registry.
On the "Load/Save" tab of the "Tools | Options..." dialog of Atlantis you can specify where Atlantis should store all its user-specific files (including the settings).
