Dear Atlantis
I want to be able to create apparently "invisible text" which can then be easily revealed. (It's for a self test quiz to revise for exams)
I thought I could do this by typing in question and answer, then making the answer text white font on white background.
Then if my student can't remember the answer all they do is highlight the apparently blank line to reveal the answer.
Sadly my wonderful idea doesn't work.
If I highlight black text it shows up beautifully white on black highlighting.
But if I highlight white text it doesn't show up.
There is some kind of setting the highlight has so it won't do what I want.
I've tried various pale colours for the "invisible" text - white/ silver grey/ pale yellow. That would be OK.
But when it's highlighted it doesn't show up strongly enough against the dark highlight to read easily.
I have thousands of these self test questions so it has to be a dead easy method. I'm afraid my students will find it too fiddly to change the colour every single time. Also that means the self test quiz could only be used once.
Is there a setting I could tweak to change how the highlight colour works?

Set highlight colour to make "invisible text"

Hi,
You could try this:
1. Create a new style (Format | Style… > New…)
2. In the “New Style” dialog, give it any appropriate name, let’s say, “Invisible”. Make the base and the next paragraph style the Normal style.
3. Still in the “New Style” dialog, press the “Font…” button.
4. In the “Font Format” dialog, choose the white font color.
5. OK out of all dialogs.
6. Apply the “Normal” style to all the questions in your test.
7. Apply the “Invisible” style to all the answers.
8. To reveal a specific answer, select the corresponding paragraph, and apply the “Normal” style.
8. To reveal all the answers, press “Ctrl+A” to select the whole document, and apply the “Normal” style.
HTH.
Cheers,
Robert

Wonderful - how to make style apply to all documents?
Robert thank you this is a wonderful solution.
After writing in I tried doing the Invisible text with macros but the setup is not as user friendly as Style.
One last thing - using the Style method only allows the Style to be used in THIS document.
I then need to Import it into every other document - and so will my students.
Is there any way I can still have the standard Normal Style AND add my new Invisible Style so it applies to ALL documents, once set up?
That is, I create the Style once, and it's then part of the Styles list for all documents?

Hi Shan of the Forest,
If the “thousands of these self test questions” have not been entered yet in any document, you can create the Invisible style in your default template or in the template used to create your test documents. If you need information on how to create or modify templates, please have a look at http://www.atlantiswordprocessor.com/en ... plates.htm.
After that any new document (Ctrl+N) or any document created after the specific “Test” template (“File | New > Create from template…”) will include the Invisible style. Note that the “File | New > Create from template…” command has a convenient toolbar button. If it isn’t on your toolbars, you can place it yourself. Have a look at http://www.atlantiswordprocessor.com/en ... olbars.htm.
Now if the “thousands of these self test questions” have already been entered in as many documents, I am afraid you’ll have to import the Invisible style into each of the documents.
HTH.
Cheers,
Robert

THANK YOU thank you THANK YOU
Robert you are wonderful.
I now have a complete system to create "invisible text."
Just in case anyone else wants to use this here's how.
----------------------------------------
I set up a Style called Invisible
- in this Style font is white so it's invisible,
but ALSO as an added sophistication, it's underlined with black dots so you can see something is there.
I then Saved as Template the document with the Style command in it.
File/ Save Special/ Save as Template in the Atlantis Templates folder
(I called the template INVISIBLE.rtf).
If I want to send a copy of a document with this feature in it to my students as long as I make the document in the INVISIBLE Template the feature transfers to their computer.
For documents I had already made I simple Copied the entire contents into a new version using the INVISIBLE Template.
-----------------------------------
Thanks lots Robert. You're a champ.
