Template library
Since Atlantis 1.0 is so new, I wondered what others might think of the idea of creating a library of user-created templates, where Ocean Mind users can upload and share templates they have created, in a similar manner to the way many applications share skins. This would expand the number of templates available and encourage more use of Atlantis. What does anybody else think? I see that there is reference to a collection of templates on the Home page, but nothing available yet.

Re: Template library
The Atlantis Resource Center will be opened on our site soon. There will be a special page with additional documents templates for Atlantis Ocean Mind. Users could also send us their templates, and these templates (accompanied with the short descriptions and with the info about their authors) will be posted to this page.
Re: Template library
Is there any shortcut to open the templates library? I like this special feature very much. Especially at my work in the company it has many, many advantages for me!

Re: Template library
The templates library? Did you mean the File | Document Templates... command of Atlantis? Right?

You could use a menu based shortcut Alt+F,U.
Re: Template library
That's good, Max. But I would love (!) a real shortcut to open the library.

Re: Template library
But this shortcut is real too. Just press the Alt+F. The File menu drops down. Now you can release the Alt+F. Then press the U key.

Anyway if you have to create many documents based on different document templates, you could turn on the Always Show Templates Window option (the Tools|Options... main menu command, the General tab).
When this option is on, the Create Document From Template window pops up each time you press the Ctrl+N keys.
Re: Template library
Hey, that's cool! Especially when you work for different companies it has many advantages. ;D

Re: Template library
Now I am thinking on creating a few templates for the ressource site. But should they be in English or could they even be in German?

What about some links there to ressources with fonts, additional clip-arts etc.?

Re: Template library
Well, the Atlantis Resource Center will be opened soon. There will be different sections with document templates & sample letters, sound schemes & sets of toolbar images, and useful links (font resources, tutorials etc).

Yes, you could post your own document templates to the Resource Center.
Though it is desirable if they were in English.
Re: Template library
The question is not only on the language. Official letters are still different in the various countries.

Re: Template library
I think that there is no problem. Each document template or letter could be accompanied with additional comments on the site.
Re: Template library
I am curious, how did you find out, that the shortcut for templates library is alt+f+u ?? Can't find it in help hotkeys...

Van
Out with it...
Re: Template library
Van, the Alt+F+U and Alt+F,U hotkeys are not the same. The Alt+F+U means that the F and U should be pressed simultaneously. The Alt+F,U means that the U should be pressed when the F released.

>how did you find out, that the shortcut for templates library is alt+f+u

The Alt+F,U is a menu-based hotkey. Each top-level command of the main menu (File, Edit, View, Insert etc) has a corresponding Alt+? hotkey. Each top-level command of the main menu has an underlined character (for example, the F is underlined for the File command, the o is underlined for the Format command). Just press the Alt plus a coressponding underlined character to drop the desired submenu (File, Edit, View etc). For example, press the Alt+F to drop the File menu.
Also most non-top-level commands have underlined characters too. For example, the u is underlined for the File | Document Templates... command. When the File menu is in the dropped state, press the underlined hotkey of the desired command from the File menu to choose (execute) this command. For example, press the U key to choose the Document Templates... command when the File menu is in the dropped state.
So, you can access any main menu command by holding the Alt down, then pressing the corersponding underlined keys to navigate among the menu commands.

Another example. To choose the Insert | Special Symbol | Copyright (©) command press the Alt+I,S,C keys.
Note that you can release the Alt after pressing the first subcombination of keys. For the above example, you could press the Alt+I keys, then release both the I and Alt, then press the S, then the C.
Re: Template library
Sorry not to have replied right away, to keep you in suspense about my density.

After I posted here, I went back to the Atlantis and figured the template 'trick' out.

I must say, I never used this method of accessing menu commands this way, although its quite powerfull. I have been a bit confused between the 'two kinds of hotkeys,' I looked in online help under hotkeys and it werent there. But then it dawned on me.

One thing contributing to my 'apparent density' is that I have switched the function on my keyboard of the Alt and Ctrl keys! The way Microsoft does it is silly, its harking back to days when they did not want (for any reason) to do what Apple computers did. It is way better to have Ctrl key next to space bar, its shorter way to reach various key combos, especially the Cut, Copy, Paste, New doc etc. Try it... but be prepared for having to always translate what you see anyplace, in manuals, bulletin boards (like here) ... But this is one thing where I want to be different, the Mac layout is way superior to PC's, ...if the platform is not. :P

Van

Re: Template library
I have to say again and again that this the templates-function with Atlantis is a feature which makes my life easier.

What are you doing in an office? Just writing the same letter again and again with different names, addresses etc. And with Atlantis 1.1 I can do this easily and fast.
