Video Card Change Breaks Atlantis?

Post by prsobel »

I've been a registered user of Atlantis Ocean Mind for a few days short of one year. During this time, I've been using a RADEON 64 MB DDR VIVO video card with no trouble.

However, in order to make use of some flight simulation software I changed video cards so as to use an nVIDIA GeForce4 TI4200 based card.

Having changed cards and loaded the necessary video drivers, Atlantis Ocean Mind 1.1.2.7 will not open. Further, the system requires a restart every time I try. Not being especially stupid, I stopped trying.

Any ideas, or similar experiences? Thanks.

All this is very strange. Atlantis is not a flight simulation software. It does not access a video either directly or via DirectX. Of course, Atlantis does not need a 3D accelerator.

Maybe your video card driver does not “like” the splash screen of Atlantis Ocean Mind. Could you please do the following:

a) Launch the RegEdit.exe utility (you could find it under the “Windows” folder),
b) Locate the “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Rising Sun Solutions, Inc.\Atlantis.1_x\General” key.
c) Double-click the “ShowSplash” value, and specify “0” for its “Value data”. This would disable the splash-screen.

Did it work?

Your idea regarding the splash screen was excellent. I followed your
instructions and am sorry to report the same symptoms as originally reported with the single exception that the splash screen no longer appears.

All other programs, however, operate as usual except for my flight sim
programs which now work better.

I'm willing to try whatever you suggest.
