Blank space at top of pages
Blank space at top of pages
I have noticed in Ocean Mind 1.5.2.2 that if a paragraph style with Space before starts the first page of a document the space before is there after the top page margin, if that same paragraph style ends up at the top of any of the following pages there is no space between the top margin and the text of that paragraph. Something similar happens when I manually add a page break before to a paragraph which has Space before set, the space before is there after the top page margin where ever that paragraph is in the document. Shouldn't the blank space before paragraphs at the top of pages be removed by Ocean Mind?
Yes, this is correct. Things are supposed to work in this way. The “space before paragraph” is not removed if the “page break before” is set for this paragraph (“Format | Paragraph, Location on Page”), or the previous page contains a manual page break. In other words, “space before paragraph” is not removed when you break the text flow by inserting a manual page break, or by specifying the “page break before” attribute for a paragraph.
I see the "space after paragragh" is conditional i.e. no space if next paragraph begins at the top of the page. Perhaps "space before" could be made the same, or an option to use conditional spaces before paras be part of Tools | Options.
I've got into the bad habit of puttting a hard CR in documents to space apart paragraphs and then I go back and remove them when they fall at the top of a page. But if I rewrite and change the length of a preceding para, I need to go back and add it in again. What a pain!
I must get into the habit of using "space after paras" and using soft CRs for end-of-lines.

I am not sure that understand you.I see the "space after paragragh" is conditional i.e. no space if next paragraph begins at the top of the page. Perhaps "space before" could be made the same, or an option to use conditional spaces before paras be part of Tools | Options.
Both the "space before paragraph" and "space after paragraph" characteristics are "optional". Atlantis "removes" (does not display) them when they are not required.
You are right. I was confused by the highlighting of a selection (Ctrl-A) extending above the top of the first para, with "space before para" set to 70pt, i.e. the selection area entends into the top margin area. But the start of the para itself is in the correct position.I see the "space after paragragh" is conditional i.e. no space if Both the "space before paragraph" and "space after paragraph" characteristics are "optional".
