Latest Atlantis News. New Operations on Pictures and Fields.

I. Pictures

With this new version of Atlantis, you can resize pictures and at the same time make sure that their original proportions are kept. For this you must first activate a new option in the "Picture" dialog, i.e. "Lock aspect ratio":

Note that there are 2 ways to bring up the "Picture" dialog:

  1. Double-click a picture. The "Picture" dialog is automatically displayed.
  2. Select a picture, then bring up the "Format | Picture…" dialog from the main menu.

Also note that in Atlantis, you can resize a picture in 3 different ways:

  1. You can select the picture, then bring up the "Format | Picture…" dialog and specify new dimensions.
  2. You can also more simply double-click the target picture. The "Picture" dialog is automatically displayed and you can specify new dimensions for the picture.
  3. Even more simply, you can select the picture with a single click, grab any of the dragging anchors that are displayed at each of its four corners, and drag the mouse to resize the picture directly on-screen.

When the "Lock aspect ratio" option is on in the “Picture” dialog, and you resize a picture through any the 3 methods just described, the original proportions between width and height are retained. If you modify the width of the picture, its height is automatically adjusted. And vice versa. The relationship of the picture width to height is maintained.

Operations on multiple pictures are now also possible.

Nothing could be easier. Here is how to proceed:

  1. Make a selection including all the target pictures.

If you want to apply the command to all the pictures of a document, press Ctrl+A to select the whole document.
If you want to apply the command to only a fraction of the pictures, select only the portion of document where the pictures are located. Note that you can select a whole fragment of document containing a mixture of text and pictures. Atlantis can automatically detect pictures from the wider selection.
You can also make a multiple selection of pictures.

  2. Right-click any one of the selected pictures. The pop-up right-click menu will include information on how many pictures are selected, plus commands that you can apply to all the selected pictures:

In this way, all the selected pictures can be reformatted (resized) together. Their quality can also be reduced. Click here for more details on picture quality reduction in Atlantis. Finally, you can use the "Save as…" command to save all the selected pictures as graphic files to your hard disk. Atlantis will ask you to give a name to the first picture:

If you include a numbering text at the end of the first filename, Atlantis will use this name for the first selected picture, then will save all the other pictures under the same filename but with incremented numbers: "screen_capture_2.png", "screen_capture_3.png", and so on.

II. Fields

When you right-click a field, a new command is now present in the pop-up context menu, i.e. "Modify Properties":

The "Modify Properties" command displays the “Field” dialog:

In this way, you can get detailed information on the current properties of the field, and also adjust them, if desired.

Operations on a multiple selection of fields are now also possible.

Note that in Atlantis you can make a multiple selection of fields just in the same way as you select multiple pictures.

When you have multiple fields of the same type selected, you can right-click any one of the selected fields. The pop-up right-click menu will include information on how many fields are selected, plus commands that will apply to all the selected fields, if used:

Note that if you select multiple fields of different types, Atlantis will actually take into account only the fields that are of the same type as the field that you right-clicked in the first place. This can be quite convenient if you want to spare yourself the hassle of selecting a number of fields of similar type scattered across a fragment of document. Let’s take an example. Tables of Contents normally include fields of different types. You can now select the whole Table of Contents, right-click any of the table fields that is of the required type, then perform any operation on the selection. Atlantis will automatically apply the command only to all the fields of similar type.
