Drag & Drop
Text editing in Atlantis is now a lot more convenient. The "Drag & Drop" feature has been completely redesigned so that you can now drag & drop selections
- within the active document,
- but also between any two documents open in Atlantis,
- and even to and from another word processor or editor, provided that they have support for drag & drop themselves.
Note that dragging text between documents in Atlantis will be most practical when the two documents are in the View side by side mode. But this can now be done also when the two documents are not side by side.
In previous versions of Atlantis, dragging a selection from another application to a document in Atlantis was possible only if the target window was displaying. When the target window was minimized or hidden beneath other document windows, you could not use drag & drop directly. You had to copy or cut the source selection to the Windows clipboard, and use the Document Bar to switch focus to the target document before pasting the clipboard contents.
All this is now a lot easier in Atlantis version 1.6.1.7 with direct drag & drop from one document to the other, using the document bar as a stepping stone. Here is how this is done:
- Capture the selection in the source document with the mouse.
- Move the special drag & drop cursor onto the target button on the Document Bar, and hold it there for about a second. The corresponding document window will be activated.
- Drag the selection to its destination in the target document window.
- Release the mouse.
So selections can now be dragged
- between two documents within Atlantis,
- from the Clip Library into the document window in Atlantis,
- from a document in another application into the document window in Atlantis,
- from a document in Atlantis to a document in another application.
In each case when dragging the selection to a document in Atlantis, the selection can be dropped after the target window has been activated by holding the drag & drop special cursor over the corresponding Document Bar button.
Note that Drag & Drop will normally cut items from the source document. If you want items to be simply copied, you must hold the Ctrl key down when you release the mouse button and drop the selection onto the target location. Also don't forget that you can always cancel a drag & drop operation, like any other operation, with Ctrl+Z.
Also note that moving or duplicating text in Atlantis with Drag & Drop is possible when the "Drag & Drop" option is checked in the "Tools | Options... > Edit" dialog.
Clippy Bank
Quite big changes have been also made to the Clippy Bank of Atlantis:
- Previously when you closed Atlantis, the contents of the Clippy Bank were lost. So the Clippy Bank worked as a temporary storage valid only through a single working session in Atlantis. Now when you close Atlantis, the Clippy Bank contents are automatically saved to a special file in the "My Documents" system folder. When you restart Atlantis, the previous Clippy Bank contents are automatically restored, and you can resume collecting data in your Clippy Bank.
- If it was displaying when you closed Atlantis, the Clippy Bank window is now automatically displayed whenever you restart Atlantis.
- Atlantis now creates backups and "safe copies" for the Clippy Bank. So the Clippy Bank contents are now safeguarded against system crashes.
- As you know, any data that goes to clipboard is also appended to the Clippy Bank when the "Clippy Bank collects clipboard data" toolbar button
is toggled on. By default, the original formatting of clips collected by the Clippy Bank is preserved. For example, when you copy a text fragment formatted with red font color, it is added to the Clippy Bank as is (formatted with red font color). However, you might want to collect plain text without any formatting. This option is now available from a drop-down menu attached to the "Clippy Bank collects clipboard data" toolbar button:
When this option is checked, any new text collected by the Clippy Bank will be formatted with the current font and paragraph format found at the insertion point in the Clippy Bank.
View Side by Side
The View side by side floating toolbar has a new command button to swap the two document windows being viewed in the current "side by side":
