I was very critical of the new toolbars in version 3. I disliked the design and configuration so much I reverted to version 2.

The toolbar customisation allowed in version 3.1 is a vast improvement, thank you!

Actually, the new toolbars are way taller than the ribbon in Word. There's nothing marginal about it! Autohide won't help at all in my opinion because the toolbars will still be just as dysfunctional. Judging by the images in the post you linked to, autohide will make the problem worse, not better ...
