Graphics program

Post by rstroud »

After a computer crash a few months ago, I no longer have the freeware graphics program that Robert recommended a few years ago. And, of course, I cannot remember the name of it, nor can I find it when I do a Google search.

As someone with high competency in software use, I have other graphics programs, but I wanted to have that one again, too. It was the one with the very unusual interface, with features arranged in a circle, I think.

Can anyone provide the name?

Thanks in advance.

Okay, I found it online by using Google to look at Gizmo's recommendations for free graphic software.

It is PhotoScape.

For Windows 10 it is PhotoScape X.

Here is the general link to the page where you can pick out the version that is appropriate for you:

I uninstalled it

Post by rstroud »

This to finish out my story ... I installed PhotoScape X.

Then, as I always do with major programs, I tried to create a shortcut to sit on the desktop.

Well, guess what. I looked everywhere for the folder where this behemoth program (hundreds of megabytes) had installed. I could never find it. I even looked in the Control Panel, because by that time I had decided to trash it. I could not find PhotoScape in the Control Panel. I even looked to see if it was under "Mooi" (the development company, or whatever). No luck.

The only way that I could run the program was by using the Windows 10 Start menu. I would not object (at least not strongly) if that were the only way to run a program. But I will not use any program that I have installed, if I am then unable to find the program on my computer.

I was only able to install the Windows 10 version by getting it from (about to puke here) the "Windows Store". I do not know if the "Windows Store", which performed the installation, was the problem, but I do not think that I will ever get anything from the "Windows Store" again.

And now ... back to work.

How I uninstalled it

For those who might ever need to know ...

I was able to uninstall by finding the program in the Start menu. Then I think I did a right-click to reveal the Uninstall option.

PhotoScape

I haven't had problems with PhotoScape in Windows10, although I actually don't use it a whole lot. But there are certain things it does wonderfully well. I especially like the bloom and backlight options, and the bright/color interface works on some projects.

Hope you found some other software that works well for you. There are a lot of options out there, both free and for pay.
