Wrong charset?

Post by Csiga »

Hi!

I noticed a strange behaviour in Atlantis. I use an English Win10 with Hungarian locale and keyboard. When I write a text with the two special Hungarian characters (o double acute and u double acute) Atlantis displays wrong characters (o tilde and u circumflex), while LibreOffice Writer and Wordpad display the correct ones. See attached screenshot.

If I copy&paste the correct ones from Writer to Atlantis, they are displayed correctly.

You could insert these characters using the following codes:
Alt+337
ő
Alt+369
ű
Alt+336
Ő
Alt+368
Ű

Are you sure that you use the Hungarian keyboard layout in Atlantis? According to your screen capture, the current language in Atlantis is "English".

Hi! I created a new screenshot that maybe presents the problem better. My computer has only one keyboard installed, the Hungarian one, so I can not even change it (as you can see, there is no kbd switch on the taskbar). The language of the document does not affects the keyboard, but I switched it to Hungarian and the wrong characters still show up. The same keypresses give the correct characters is every other application.

If I copy the text with the correct characters from Wordpad, Writer, etc., they are displayed and handled correctly - even the spellchecker sees the following two words equivalent:

õrült
őrült

Ok, something bothered me, so I made further investigations :D I am using Atlantis for a while now and have never met this problem before, why now? So I tried it on my wife's Hungarian Win10 + Hungarian keyboard PC and voilá... perfectly displayed characters.

It seems that if the OS language and the keyboard settings are different, Atlantis is confused.

In Windows, you can have multiple keyboard layouts for different languages. If Atlantis responds to your keystrokes with wrong characters, most probably the incorrect keyboard layout is active in Atlantis.

How many keyboard layouts do you have in your Windows?

Here are some links on keyboard layouts:
