Spaces between words are dots

I now have the latest version, 3.3.3.1, and very pleased with it. But I notice that the spaces between words have dots in them instead of the usual blank space which is annoying. The former versions didn't have this. Where can I turn them off? I'm using a Dell desktop with 22 inch screen to write books.

Try switching off “View | Special Symbols”. Are the dots still there?
