Post by Marttta »

Hello,
I know how to find the three basic Headings 1, 2, 3.
But I don't know how to create 4, 5, 6...

New Heading Style

Post by rstroud »

It is extremely easy to do, but I can tell from your question that you do not understand styles, and that makes it difficult to answer your question.

If you can open the Control Board, do so and click on the Styles icon. That will display the styles in the document.

Down at the lower left you will see a small icon for Create New Style (or something like that). Click that icon, and then create your new style. You can name it Heading 4, 5, 6, or whatever. You have to specify the font, font size, spacing above and below. If you do not, then each new style will be a copy of the Normal style.

Try playing around with creation of one style. You will not hurt anything. A new style displays only with that particular document unless you save the new document as a template. Do not get that far ahead. Just work on creating a style or two.

Hope that helps.

Hello, rstroud :)
So yes it did help. I could create another Heading 4. :D
However I don't know how to make it accessible in other files...
When I open new file and click on the Syles in Control Board there is no added Heading 4... that I made in previous file... :?

Make styles accessible

You have to save your new styles as a template.

FILE > Save Special > Save as template

Name the file (template) whatever you would like.

Then when you create a new file, use:

FILE > New > Create from template. This opens a list of templates.

Select your desired template. The new file will have copies of those new styles.

NOTE:
The easiest way to create a new template is to take a file that has the styles that you want; then save a copy of the file under a NEW name; then delete all the text in the NEW file; then save the empty file as a template, as above. Make sure that you do the deletion on the NEW file, not on the original file! :)

You can also import styles from an existing file into any other file. Then you could save the file (with the imported styles) as a template.
