Atlantis Word Processor 4.3 (beta)
Re: Atlantis Word Processor 4.3 (beta)
Sorry about this.
Nearly all the settings of Atlantis are stored within the “Atlantis.ini” file from the “My documents\Atlantis” folder. You can simply make backup copies of this file from time to time.
Possibly Atlantis will soon make automatic backups of its configuration file.

Thank you...
Automatic backup of the ini file (like the document backup) would be a useful feature for me, thanks

Re: Atlantis Word Processor 4.3 (beta)
As the last step in formatting old paperback pulp books scanned into my computer for reading as ePubs I do the following:
Find what: (<<[!^w])
Format > Style: _normalize OCR
Replace with: ^8195^8197\1
Format > Style: FLI First line indent
I then do Replace All.
The result is adding 1 blank space (^32) after group 1 (the first printing character in the paragraph) for each replacement. This has not happened before this Beta in the years I have been working on this home project. Why is it doing this?
For this section of 49 pages it happened to 419 paragraphs.

Are you sure your “replace with” text is not terminated with a space character? It is in your post above:

Thanks admin,
You are correct. That must have crept in when I setup Saved Searches.

I have noticed that when I do 2 Saved Searches in a row that have an empty Find what and Format checked that the second search does not happen. If I uncheck Format and re-run the second search, then the search does happen.

Re: Atlantis Word Processor 4.3 (beta)
I have been having intermittent failures using the Page settings icon and applying to Whole document. I think I have captured an example of this. The scenario follows:
I have a Continuous Section break with 2 blank paragraphs of _normalize OCR before and after it at the end of the file.
I place the insert point at the end of the document.
Insert OCR scan by Alt+i, f and double-clicking top file listed.
Select inserted text by holding down Shift key and clicking in first section blank paragraphs.
Change all selected paragraphs to _normalize OCR by clicking Style dropdown menu and then clicking top line which the underscore style causes to be at top.
Remove OCR 2 column formatting by Alt+m, up arrow, Enter to get to default single column pages.
Click in first section, click Page settings icon, click Apply to dropdown and select Whole document, click OK to apply margins to inserted OCR text.
When there are 3 or 4 sections in the inserted text 1 of the sections ends up with the Left margin at 0 instead of the 29 points I use for all these books (paperback book size). When I delete the Section break at the end of the first section to start combining the inserted text with what I have already formatted, the whole document text is radically reformatted, I suspect to page size and margins from OCR scan. When this happened this time I Ctrl+z undid the change and then checked the page settings for each section to find this error. I then closed the file as I had saved it immediately before changing the page settings. I copied that file to my desktop to preserve it.

Re: Atlantis Word Processor 4.3 (beta)
If I understand you correctly, the “File > Page settings” command incorrectly applies changes to the sections of your document. So the key info in your above post is this:
Would it be possible to have a sample document with multiple sections, and the more precise instructions like this: “open this document, click ‘page settings’, choose new margins, select ‘apply to whole doc’, click OK, examine the margins of section #N”?Click in first section, click Page settings icon, click Apply to dropdown and select Whole document, click OK to apply margins to inserted OCR text. When there are 3 or 4 sections in the inserted text 1 of the sections ends up with the Left margin at 0 instead of the 29 points I use for all these books (paperback book size).
Re: Atlantis Word Processor 4.3 (beta)
Hi admin,
That is the relevant section. After I finish writing his post I will email the sample copy file plus the OCR scan file that inserted at the end of the original file along with whole document page setting led to the sample.
Copy file left margins: Section #1 29 points, Section #2 0 points, Section #3 29 points, Section #4 29 points. All the left margins should be 29 points because of the Page settings > Whole document.
Open file.
In section #1 after the paragraph ending ‶What could go wrong?″ select the next 5 lines/paragraphs (Continuous Section Break in the middle).
Press the Delete key.
The result now has a left margin of 0 points visually for the entire file.
Section #1 margin was changed from 29 points to 0.
Section #2 margin at 29 points.
Section #3 margin at 29 points.
I do not know what caused this problem. Whether the inserting of the multiple section OCR scan file or the page setting from section 1 of the whole document.

Re: Atlantis Word Processor 4.3 (beta)
This can be explained.Open file.
There are 4 document sections in your “...[The]-Copy.rtf”. All these sections have identical page settings with one exception: the left margin of section #2 is 0. All these sections are separated with continuous section breaks. In Atlantis, multiple sections separated with continuous breaks always display with the page settings of the section before the first continuous break. Deleting a section break means destruction of the preceding section object. As a result, the remaining text of the section preceding the break that you delete (in our case, section #1), gets included in the following section #2. So when you delete those 5 paragraphs, you destroy the first section object with the 29pt left margin. The page settings of the former section #2 (with the left margin 0) become the page settings of the larger combined section.
You can examine page settings of individual sections through the Sections panel of the Control Board.
To make sure all the sections in your document have identical page settings, click the first section, choose “File | Page Settings...”, select “Whole document” from the “Apply to” box, and click OK.
Re: Atlantis Word Processor 4.3 (beta)
Hi admin,
The 0 left margin was created (most likely) after the OCR scan was inserted into the file and when the Page settings > Apply: Whole document was applied from section #1. The OCR file inserted does not have any 0 margins. I do understand that section 2 caused the change to the margins when the Section Break was deleted. If I did not put a Section Break in the document at the end before inserting a file after it the page settings of the inserted file would change the existing settings.
When deleting the Section Break is when I find that the Whole document page setting did not happen to every margin in every section. This is why I included the OCR scan file that has caused the same error each time for the several times I inserted it and did the Whole document setting in section #1. I might go through 20 to 40 scans before running into this problem. I am unwilling to check every time that every section has been converted to section #1 margins. If I Ctrl+z out of deleting the Section Break and again apply Whole document the problem section margins are correctly set.

Re: Atlantis Word Processor 4.3 (beta)
To find out if all the sections in your document have identical margins, you can press Ctrl+A, then open the “Page settings” dialog. If there are sections with different left margins, the “Left” margin edit box would be blank.
I have your two files. Can they be used to recreate the problem? If so, how?The 0 left margin was created (most likely) after the OCR scan was inserted into the file and when the Page settings > Apply: Whole document was applied from section #1.
Re: Atlantis Word Processor 4.3 (beta)
Hi admin,
For testing purposes make a copy of the Copy file. I will call it Copy2. Open Copy2. Go to the end of section 1. After the Section Break delete the paragraph with text ‶416″ all the way to the end of file. The insert point is now at the last paragraph, do Alt+i, f, select Exiles Trilogy 416, press Open. The insert point is now at the end of file, move the slider until the Section Break at the end of section 1 is in view. Hold the Shift key down, click on the paragraph before the Section Break to select the entered text. Format the text as single column by Alt+i, m, up arrow, Enter. Left arrow to put insert point in section 1. Format page settings by clicking Page settings icon, Apply to: dropdown, select Whole document, Enter to apply.
The file will now be in the state where section 2 has a zero left margin when the original section 1 had a left margin of 29 points. This is the point where I normally delete the text and paragraphs across the Section Break to join the inserted text I want with the existing text and the margins change because the Whole document did work correctly, cluing me in to there is a problem.

Re: Atlantis Word Processor 4.3 (beta)
I have started entering another book into my computer. Doing my normal Insert file (file to be sent) Atlantis would lockup (not respond) for minutes after I had selected the entered text and tried to apply a new paragraph style to all of it. I clicked close and Windows closed the file and sent an error report to Microsoft. The third time I tried this doing something slightly different I had the idea to save after entering and before changing all the entered paragraphs. When I tried applying a paragraph style this time it again locked up and Windows closed it down. Now the file (Starcrossed [The].rtf to be sent) won't open and Atlantis becomes unresponding only when opening this particular file. Hopefully you can look at the 2 files and determine what is going on. In the meantime I will try to think of a way to recover the file so I can continue input after my brilliant (sarcasm) idea.
