Online Help

Post by emcat »

I rarely need to use Atlantis help -it's normally so straightforward - but I was having a problem with a list. What a surprise to discover that I couldn't get to help because I needed to be online!

This is indeed a problem for me because we often don't have internet connection due to our location. I don't remember when this was implemented, but I would like to know if I can roll back my Atlantis version to that point before help went online? 8O

Hi,
The Atlantis compiled CHM help file is available on the Atlantis server as a ZIP file:

Take note, however, that this CHM help file is from v1.6.6.1 at the end of 2013, and so doesn't reflect some of the more recent changes to Atlantis.

If you download and install “WinHTTrack Website Copier” from https://www.httrack.com/, you’ll be able to copy and get a good offline (localized) version of the Atlantis help from http://www.atlantiswordprocessor.com/en/help/. On my system, WinHTTrack took about 5 minutes to localize the Atlantis online help.

I'm glad it's accepted practice!

If anyone wants a premade HTML copy of the help, you can grab a ZIP at

Well, the Atlantis site is a public site and it is meant to help! It would be counterproductive to put walls up and keep people out!
Thanks, Jesse!

Dear Admin;

Please explain why?
I mean surely You must realize it would aid at least some of us newbies??
What conceivable harm could it do to Y'all ???
I believe this would likely save Y'all time, by not having to field many basic Questions.

Thank You for your consideration, den

If you press F1 in Atlantis, it would open the Atlantis Word Processor Help pages in your default Web browser.

Dear Sirs;

You seem to just assume that every Human on Earth has a permanent portable InterNet Connection?
I for one do not, much of the time. Atlantis is so otherwise EXCELLENT ( The World's Best WP ever),
I was shocked to find it had No Help File, as most other Windows Applications have had and do so now.
It feels to me untoward, that we should have ask/beg for an "offline" Help ?

Thank You for your consideration, den

Dear A Team:

I did not ask Y’all to add/change a single Byte in AWP,
only to make a CHM Downloadable,
as You already have done with ASN files, for instance.
As You also told us You have a neat Help system " F1 ",
all ya need do is put it in a .CHM ?

So You were capable of doing it in " 2015 ", only ya forgot how in 2024 ???

May Y'all Prosper, den

The Online Help is not CHM-based. There is no CHM file corresponding to the current Online Help.

As a workaround you could try to follow Robert's suggestion:

He has posted it back in 2015 but the “WinHTTrack Website Copier” is still available.

An excerpt of what they write on their website (linked by Robert in his above posting):
It allows you to download a World Wide Web site from the Internet to a local directory, building recursively all directories, getting HTML, images, and other files from the server to your computer.

Wouldn't that be at least something similar to what you are looking for?
-------------------
PS:
I just tried it out. It worked fine. (Just one error during the procedure.)
Here an easily understandable step-by-step description on their website: https://www.httrack.com/html/step.html
Afterwards you will have the Atlantis Help on your computer, including images, (working) links etc. - ready for being used offline. (Just double-click on the index.html in the folder where you have saved the website.) I think this would meet your demands.

Hello;

" The Online Help is not CHM-based. There is no CHM file corresponding to the current Online Help. "

I did not think that I had to restate the obvious. As You suggested that Y'all did 9 Years ago & before, You need to compile it, to make the CHM.
Your Customers get Support by E-Mail, Forum & online Help. If Y’all go bye, without an Offline Help, they will have Zip!

Sincerely, den

Dear Moonlight;

" Wouldn't that be at least something similar to what you are looking for? "

Yes, only I did try it, BEFORE I ever asked here and I could not get it to copy anything.
Just many Errors! ( Why should we even have to resort to such desperate measures? )

I do greatly appreciate Your time & effort helping, den

Hi, den.

I tried it once more using the “WinHTTrack Website Copier” and for me all worked fine again, like some days ago. (Only one error: a link that was not found on this page: https://www.atlantiswordprocessor.com/e ... ps_021.htm).

So I have the Atlantis Help offline on my computer (status from today, 21 March 2024). I uploaded it for you and anyone else interested. You can download it here (it's a zip-file which I called "AWP-Help"): https://www.sendspace.com/file/wohwsd

The procedure is easy:
- Download the zip-file from the above link.
- Unzip it. It contains one folder (called also "AWP-Help").
- Open the folder and double click the file index.html.
- The "Atlantis Word Processor Help" will open offline.

PS:
A "Thank you" to Robert who suggested the “WinHTTrack Website Copier” back in 2015. :D
