Problems with epub

Post by BobC5 »

Hello, recently migrated to a new laptop with Windows 10, as the previous one with Windows 7 passed away. Now have a few problems exporting as epub that I never had before. The first of them is that fonts are not embedded in the epub. In the case of the book I’m designing is a serious problem, because it uses some Chinese characters, and they need a specific font. The second issue is that although I have the “page break before” unchecked in the paragraph styles box, it does a page break. In over a decade of use, nothing of this never ever happened before, so I’m clueless. The third one is that there are poems in the text, and the titles of some of them have an endnote number. I need the title centered not counting the endnote number. I solved this done with the “Indent-left” setting. Works fine in the file, but it’s not effective in the Kindle screen. Please help me solve this, especially the first two issues, as they are really serious. Thanks!

Are those fonts available in your new system? Is font embedding enabled in the “Save as eBook” dialog of your copy of Atlantis?
The second issue is that although I have the “page break before” unchecked in the paragraph styles box, it does a page break.
Are there manual page breaks in your document (inserted with Ctrl+Enter)? How long is your document?
I need the title centered not counting the endnote number.
You can center only an entire paragraph, not its fragment.

It would be easier to suggest something more specific if you emailed your source document to support@atlantiswordprocessor.com.

Thanks for your prompt reply!!!

First of all, I forgot to tell you that the font embedding problem is not only with this particular file only. I tried saving as ePub doing a short file just as a test, and with embedding enabled in the Save as eBook dialog box, the fonts are not embedded. Also, I'm running Atlantis version 3.3.3.1. Long way since the first Atlantis Nova! I should upgrade to the latest version ;)

>Are those fonts available in your new system? Is font embedding enabled in the “Save as eBook” dialog of your copy of Atlantis?
Yes, the font is duly installed in Windows, And yes, the embedding is enabled in the "Save as eBook" dialog box. It worked perfect until moving to the new machine.

>Are there manual page breaks in your document (inserted with Ctrl+Enter)? How long is your document?
No manual mage break, I ascertained several times. And in eBooks, I always set the page break in the Styles>Paragraph settings

>You can center only an entire paragraph, not its fragment.
So, if I want to give a different indent to the first line, I should turn it into an another paragraph, right?

I will. Of course you will need the Chinese font also. The rtf file is less than 800 Kb, the ttf is almost 15 Mb. Do I have to specify the problem in the email? Needless to say, the book is copyrighted. I'll email it as soon as you let me know these details. Thanks again!

You can install the latest version of Atlantis to find out if those problems are specific to your 4-year-old version of Atlantis. Versions 4.0.6.1 and 4.2.0.3 specifically address issues in the “Save as eBook” command related to font embedding.

And upgrading Atlantis is a great way to support the project.

Definitely! It can also may have to do that this old version was running fine on Windows 7 but not the same in Windows 10. I'll do the upgrade. By the way... I've been quite lazy in doing it. I'll let you know what happens with it. Thanks again!

Hello, so... I did the upgrade and everything is working as fine as usual in Atlantis. All problems solved, fonts are embedded, no unwanted page breaks and custom centering goes perfect. I have only one issue with the cover, Kindle generator says that the file is not compatible with html format. It is a 300 dpi jpg file, so it shouldn't be a problem. Any idea? Thanks in advance

I am not sure that HTML cares about the "flavor" of your JPEG image since HTML does not render images.

Have you tried using a different JPEG file?

Me either ;)

I must use this one because is the book cover. The original is the tif image I prepared for the printed version of the book. I used a Baseline optimized, maybe I should try a Baseline standard. I copied the mobi file to a Kindle Paperwhite reader and the cover shows perfect. The point is if Amazon will accept it.
