main window size not (always) remembered anymore?

Post by franklekens »

I regularly switch Atlantis from a full size window to a custom sized window that takes up about half my screen. (I mean the Atlantis window itself, not the document windows within Atlantis.) I've noticed in the last version (or versions) it has suddenly stopped remembering the exact size of the custom window when I revert to that from the maximized window. Not all of the time, because sometimes it works well, but then all of a sudden when Atlantis is maximised and I click on that window button at the left hand top, the maximized window is resized only to a very slightly less maximized version, i.e. it is in customized size mode, but the customized size is not what I had previously used but is about as big as to entirely fill my screen.

I noticed this over the past few weeks, I regularly update my version, so this started in one of the last versions, up to 4.4.1.6.
I have just updated to 4.4.1.9, so if this is one of the bugs silently remedied since I will notice and will forever hold my peace.
Otherwise: anybody else notice this?

It's on Windows 10, by the way. And it's really fairly recent, this never used to happen before.
I can't so far determine any fixed routine or other actions I may have performed that could influence this. But it shouldn't respond like this anyway, no?

I can neither explain nor reproduce this on my system. I am not sure if this (new) behavior is in any way linked to the recent builds of Atlantis. Atlantis changes the “non-maximized” size of the main window only once – at startup.

Do you use the Full Screen mode of Atlantis (F9)?

How often does this happen?

Do you drag the non-maximized window of Atlantis to a screen edge?

Are there other applications/utilities running in the background when this happens?

It's weird, isn't it. I can't consciously produce it, but it has happened a few times over the past weeks.

I don't use F9.
The non-maximised window is usually centered on my (very wide) screen, filling it entirely in the vertical direction, but leaving open space to the left and right of it. In fact, I set it so that if I use side by side, I get two document windows of a nice size, and when I then maximize the window to its full width I activate the controle board docked in a column to the left, the full width now leaves room on the right for one third document to be displayed in about the same size as the two documents coupled in side by side view.
That's mainly what I use the non-maximized window for, since I generally have Atlantis maximized when working to help focussing. Only occasionally do I use it in non-maximized mode.

A number of other programmes are always running (and have always been running) at the same time. Two Chrome windows, xplorer2, Thunderbird, Foxit, MSWord (yes, I have to use that as well), those kind of things. Nothing that does weird stuff with the Windows GUI.

Also, I actually always switch between the two modes by double-clicking the title bar, not by clicking the maximize/non-maximize button at the right hand top. But I don't suspect that will make a difference.
And as I said, I've only just upgraded to the very latest version, it remains to be seen if the problem persists.

According to your second post, you use a quite sophisticated method to arrange your windows on the screen. I could imagine that this may be the reason for the issue (e.g. because of closing the windows in a "wrong" order or something like that).

Did you already test the situation with the most simple setting? Open just one window of Atlantis (maximized), then change it to some custom size. Close Atlantis (with the window in custom size). - The next time Atlantis should remember this and start with the window in this custom size. Maximize the window and non-maximize it again (with one of the methods you mention in your last post: clicking on the button or double-clicking into the title bar). Again the custom size you had chosen should be remembered.

For me it works in this way without problem. If the same happens to you (trying it in several attempts), you could deal step by step with the situation when you open / arrange / resize two or more document windows.
