Restart numbering in lists

Post by yclipse »

I created a numbered list of paragraphs, 1-6.

Now I want to start (after some non-listed text) a new list beginning again at 1. How do I do that? Atlantis wants to start the new list at 7.

Greetings--

The most practical is to use the Lists Panel of the Atlantis Control Board. Here is how to proceed:

1. Open your document in Atlantis.
2. Press F6 to display the Control Board if it isn't already displaying.
3. Click the Control Board third icon from the right to display the Lists panel.
4. In the document window, select the paragraphs that you want to number as a new list.
5. Use the toolbar buttons at the bottom of the Control Board Lists panel, and click "Specify list formatting for the document selection (new list)" (first button from the left).
6. Choose any appropriate list formatting from the "New List Format" dialog that pops up.
7. OK out of the dialog.

Cheers

You could click the automatic number "7", then click the "Start new list" button of the popup toolbar:

I am having the same problem with the Styled Lists option - the 'Restart after higher level' checkbox doesn't work. I have three list parts:

Header
Subheader
List

I want it to look like this, with styles associated

I Header
A Subheader
1 List
2 List
B Subheader
1 List
2 List
II Header
A Subheader
1 List
2 List

(typical behavior for the 'List' button on the toolbar, when styles are not associated)

... what I am getting instead by applying styles, even when 'Restart after higher level' is checked in both Subheader and List, is:

I Header
A Subheader
1 List
2 List
B Subheader
3 List
4 List
II Header
C Subheader
5 List
6 List

... please help? Thanks!

Most probably if you open the Lists panel of the Control Board of Atlantis, it would say that you have three independent lists in your document. One of them is associated with your “Header” style. Another one – with the “Subheader” style. The third one – with the “List” style.

Nothing is restarted because the list associated with each of the three styles has nothing to do with any of the other two styles. To have the correct numbering, you need to associate all the three styles with the same style-controlled list. In other words, all the three styles should belong to the same style pool controlling your list.

After specifying the outline list formatting for your first style, you need to associate the remaining two styles with the same style-controlled list. Let’s take an example. Let’s suppose that you have three styles in your document: Heading 1, Heading 2, and Heading 3. You could use the Styles panel of the Control Board of Atlantis to adjust the list formatting of each of these styles. So you could highlight the Heading 1 style in the Styles panel, then click the “Modify style” Image button at the bottom of the Styles panel. Then click the “List…” button in the “Edit Style” dialog. Then click the “Outline” tab at the top of the “List” dialog, and double-click the desired outline list template in the List Gallery at the bottom of the List dialog. OK out all the dialogs. Now you have a new outline list in your document controlled by the Heading 1 style. In other words, every Heading 1 paragraph is a level-1 item of that list. After this click the Heading 2 style in the Styles panel of the Control Board. Click the “Modify style” Image button at the bottom of the Styles panel. Then click the “List…” button in the “Edit Style” dialog. Then click the “Style-controlled lists” tab at the bottom of the List dialog, and double-click the list which is currently associated with the Heading 1 style. In this way you would associate the Heading 2 style with the same outline list which is currently associated with the Heading 1 style. OK out the dialogs. Then highlight the Heading 3 style in the Styles panel, and associate it with the same style-controlled list, as you have just done with the Heading 2 style.

outline list problem...

Post by Andremusic »

Hi, I WOULD like my second level list to go on, but it starts again from the beginning every time after a first level line is interupting the second level list. The option for Presume previous list is greyed out, so not available.
How do I do this?

What you call "second level list" is an integral part of your outline list. The right-click "Resume previous list" command can be used to join two separate lists. It has nothing to do with the levels of the same list.

Please click any level-2 item of your list, choose the "Format | List..." menu command, then uncheck the "Restart after higher level" box for the second level:
