Atlantis locked up on me with a message that it could not open "doc74" and would not even let me close the program. I had to use ctrl-alt-del to end it, but got the same message every time I tried to re-open. This is a legitimate file which I had not renamed yet. I finally unstalled Atlantis, re-installed it, and got the message that my "trial copy" had expired.
I bought Atlantis years ago, and have taken every update. I took the update to 1.6.1.5 as soon as I got the email, but had not opened the program until yesterday. As to whether the problem was caused by the update, I have no idea. I do know that I have never had any problem with Atlantis since the day I bought it years ago!
I'm in the middle of a final draft of a paper, so I put in a "panic" request for my install code but have not received it as yet. I'll buy Atlantis again if I have to, but would rather not!

Thanks for the very speedy answer! I did such a thorough deletion of Doc74.rtf I can't find an occurence anywhere. I suspect I caused my own problem, at least that's my guess. I had renamed it in Windows directory, not realizing it was open in Atlantis under Doc74.rtf. When I tried to open Atlantis, it looked for Doc74.rtf, couldn't find it, and locked up tight.admin wrote:Your registration code has been resent to your email address.

I didn't lose any documents, thanks to an external backup drive running Ghost, but I lost my formatting of Atlantis. I tried copying the oldest .ini file of 30 days ago from Ghost into the current (1.5.1.6) but that didn't help. Before I redo all the formatting, do you have any suggestions as to how I can recover this?
BTW, when I said I'd buy Atlantis again if I had to, that was the truth. It is very rare to buy a piece of SW and feel that you got a lot more than the program cost. Congratulations!

You could not rename a document's file if it is open in Atlantis. Your Windows would not allow to rename or delete it.
When you uninstall Atlantis, all its settings get removed from the Registry. This is why you now have the default settings in your Atlantis.
If you have the INI file with the Atlantis settings, you could reload them through the "Load from File..." button of the "Tools | Options..." dialog.

I did not say I renamed the document when it was open in Atlantis. I know that is impossible. When I tried to rename and/or delete it in Windows Directory I kept getting the message that it was being used by another program or another user. Exiting and rebooting Atlantis and/or Windows itself did not change the situation, I kept getting the same message even though no other program was open. I finally did a search and found one instance of 74doc.rtf [I don't remember where], deleted that, and the problem was gone.admin wrote:You could not rename a document's file if it is open in Atlantis. Thanks for the tip re reloading the INI file... worked fine!
