Full screen & background

Post by BobC »

Hello,

Thanks for developing what’s probably the greatest word processor for writing. Not only for it’s features, with almost nothing missing and nothing extra, but also for the full screen mode. Full screen with no distractions is the writer’s choice, and there are a number of plain text editors developed for the purpose. Dark Room, J-Dark Room, Q10, Write Monkey to mention a few. However Atlantis offers the full screen plus all the Atlantis advantages. Now, most of writers like the black background, with green or amber letters, as it’s the best for the eyes. Atlantis also gives that choice, through Options/Colors and there you create your environment. Just one thing I haven’t been able to set in order to have a completely black screen. It’s a frame around it, which becomes slightly distracting. Is there a way of getting rid of it? If so, please let me know how. If not, can you consider it for a future version? I’m placing a screen capture of both, the Atlantis full screen and one of the mentioned text editors to make the idea clear. I added a dark gray background to both of them so you can see the frame around Atlantis full screen.

Thanks and congratulations for Atlantis!

Hi,
If you choose “Text Width” as the zooming factor for your documents (Ctrl+Shift+K,T), most of the non-black background will vanish from the Atlantis display.

You can also change the color of the “Interpage Space” to black. You won’t see any frame around the page then. But obviously, you won’t see the page separations either.

Note that yellow (or amber) on (dark)-green background is what’s nowadays considered best for the eyes. Most school “blackboards” are now actually green.

Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Robert

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your immediate reply. Actually, the zoom factor I use is page width (Ctrl+Shift+P) and then use the mouse wheel to get the final zoom factor, another great feature of Atlantis. I already changed the “Interpage Space” to black and disabled the page margin borders for this black background full screen setting, so I have a great writing environment. When it comes to get ready for refining and prepare the document for printing I can then go back to the Standard Color Scheme with margin borders lines. What I can’t do is getting rid of the clear frame around the screen. I’m posting a larger image so that you can see it better. It is the clear frame line between the black background and the dark gray I added to the image to make the light colored frame visible. I can surely live and write with it! But if I’d be able to have a completely black background it’d be even better.

I tried a dark green background, as the schools “greenboards”, but haven’t found the right dark-green yet.

I remember the first Atlantis Nova ver. 0.7… with the Ocean Mind your team has developed a real fantastic processor. Thanks a load once again!

Hi Bob,
I am afraid you cannot get rid of that clear frame line. It is meant to show that Atlantis is still there. The Atlantis window has to be drawn and somehow remain visible.

Also if you aim at the top line and click, you display the Atlantis main menus. This would be rather awkward if the top line was completely invisible.

For the right shade of dark green, you could try the following RGB values:

0,26,26
0,48,0
0,48,48
48,48,0
48,48,48

Hope this helps.
Cheers,

Hi Robert

Thanks for your help once again! I figured out something like that about the frame. As I said before, I can live and write with it, Ocean Mind is a fantastic tool. I must still explore the project function. As for the dark-green background, thanks for the cue, 0, 45, 0 seem to be close to it.

Hood winds and have a great weekend

The top side of this frame cannot be removed because it is needed to access the main menu under the Full Screen mode. But the left, right, and bottom sides can be removed indeed. Any next release of Atlantis Word Processor will not display them under the 100% Full Screen (when all the GUI items are checked on the "View" tab of the "Tools | Options..." dialog of Atlantis:
