I'm trying to use the "Insert Page Number" function. I select "bottom of page" and "center." When I click on "OK," all it does is open the Header & Footer view, and place the cursor in the bottom left corner of the footer. It does not create a page number in the bottom center.
Questions:
(1) Is this correct? Am I then supposed to create the page number somehow myself? I've never used a word processor that didn't create a basic page number automatically.
(2) I don't see any easy way to close the Header & Footer view, other than mousing up to the drop down View menu. Am I missing something?

(1) Most likely you did not check “Show number on first page” in the “Insert | Page Numbers…” dialog.
(2) The traditional way to close the Header & Footer view is to double-click the document main text area.
Double-click any grayed-out Header & Footer area to reopen it.
