Help with epub to Calibre

Post by BobC »

Hello,

We (Sacred Mountain Press) will release The Taoist Manual in Kindle format, and I found that the best results are saving the file as epub and then Calibre into mobi. The book has a big number of images, and as a first test I’m only using a few of them, of course by importing, that is, Insert-Picture. All of them in jpg format, less than 63 bytes as advised by Kindle. Although everything goes fine in epub, with the last tests some of the images vanish into thin air in the mobi file. May I email you the three files -rtf, epub and mobi- so you can give me an idea of how to solve this problem?

By the way… just came into my mind that it’d be great if Atlantis could save right into the mobi format!!!

Thanks in advance!

Hi Bob,
Have you tried the online converters available at http://www.2epub.com or http://ebook.online-convert.com/convert-to-mobi?
Also a free Kindle file generator (KindleGen for Windows) and previewer (Kindle Previewer for Windows) is available from http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1000234621.
HTH.
Cheers,
Robert

Hi Robert,

thanks for the immediate reply & data! Just tried, but the problem with one of the tables is still there, same as Calibre.

thanks again. It's rather late here so in case you need, I'll post more details about the problem tomorrow. I'm sure with a little help from you I'll work it out.

Thanks again

Sorry! I do have kindle previewer, there's where I see the missing images. I tried KindleGen but find Calibre more useful for a great number of features.

Sorry, but we do not plan supporting eBook formats other than EPUB.

Since you have difficulties with converting EPUBs to Kindle through Calibre, have you tried contacting its author Kovid Goyal?

Hello, sorry for being late, I needed a little rest. It'd be great being able to do the whole formatting in Atlantis, but if you just intend to keep within the epub format only... then it'll have to be Atlantis+Calibre. Atlantis epub is flawless!

I haven't contacted the author yet, but the problem seems to be solved. Apparently it had to do with page breaks. I'll contact him anyhow. The printed version of the book has over 175 images. We'll probably won't use all of them in the kindle format as it may become too heavy a file. But I must certainly make sure that every one of those shows well in the e-version!

Thanks for your suggestion. Atlantis is -to me- the greatest word processor and the team is great also. I started using the very first version of Atlantis Nova as soon as it appeared, and am more than happy of having registered the OM years ago.

Thanks again
Bob
