how to insert an outside spellchecker
how to insert an outside spellchecker
I found some Hungarian spellcheckers, for Firefox/Thunderbird also one for Open-Office. Is there a way to incorporate / transfer/ reformat, etc any of those into Atlantis?
It would be a great help for other languages to.

Sorry, but you cannot incorporate third-party spellcheckers into Atlantis. But if you have a Hungarian wordlist in a plain text format (an ordinary ANSI TXT file; one word/phrase per line), it could be used to compile an Atlantis spellchecker for the Hungarian language. The same regarding any other Western/Central/Eastern European language.

Thanks for the reply.
Due to some special characters I can only get them in UTF-8 or Windows Central European character table.
I guess that the end of it.
Thanks

There are multiple ANSI character sets. ANSI-1250 (or Windows-1250) includes Hungarian letters. A Hungarian text file in UTF-8/Unicode can be easily converted to ANSI-1250. Most probably you already have your wordlist in ANSI-1250.

Assuming that my conversion is correct, how can I build it into Atlantis to try?

At this point, you cannot create Atlantis spellcheckers yourself. We have plans to release a corresponding toolkit. But I cannot say when it will be available.
If you emailed your wordlist file to support@AtlantisWordProcessor.com, we could create the spellchecker for you. We might even consider adding it to the standard set of Atlantis spellcheckers available for download from here if you believe that the spellchecker does a good job, and it could be useful to others.

It won't work. Hungarian is an agglutinative language where affixes can change the word a dozen way.admin wrote:If you emailed your wordlist file to support@AtlantisWordProcessor.com...
It is possible to compose a "complete wordlist" which would contain all the word forms of a given . It might be quite long. It might contain 1 million entries or more. But this would not be a problem to the spellcheck engine of Atlantis. The main problem with creating a new spellchecker is composing a quality wordlist containing all possible word forms.
Is it possible to convert this way some of open source spellcheck dictionaries, eg Aspell http://aspell.net/, HunSpell http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Dictionaries, iSpell http://lasr.cs.ucla.edu/geoff/ispell-dictionaries.html or some other?admin wrote:At this point, you cannot create Atlantis spellcheckers yourself. If you have a plain text wordlist, it can be converted to the Atlantis format. But a wordlist is supposed to include all possible forms for all words. For example, it is not sufficient to include "meteorology" in the English wordlist. All inflected forms of "meteorology" should be included as well:
meteorology
meteorologic
meteorological
meteorologically
meteorologist
meteorologists
meteorology
meteorologic
meteorological
meteorologically
meteorologist
meteorologists
Hunspell
The SoftMaker Office (2012) just incorporated (revision 663) the hunspell open source spell checking system which allowed them a dozen new language to be used:

The Hungarian dictionary is about 700kb.

Can we expect this in future versions of Atlantis please?

Sorry, I don' wish to be too importunate, but the situation is however very intriguing. Is there certain conceptual reason not to implement open-source spellcheck engine as Hunspell, iSpell etc into Atlantis? Some legal restrictions of open-source license terms, coding troubles or Atlantis' author(s) individual prejudice?admin wrote:Sorry, but we do not have such plans as of yet. Thanks for a link.
Thanks in advance and sorry, if the question is too personal or concern your corporate secret.
Thank you for explanation!admin wrote:There is no conceptual reason, and the question is not personal at all. We simply do not have such plans at the moment.
I suppose, you have surely already analyzed the fact, how many potential users Atlantis loses every week due to its spell-check restricted abilities? Due to my job I now exactly, that spell check support in a user's language is usually one of the first 2-3 things [/b], sometimes the very first thing, which a user consider when choosing a word processor for his/her daily work.
Well, you might think, that these 12 languages Atlantis supports now cover a larger part of Europe + Brazilia. Well, but what about China, India, Korea, Arabic countries, Russia and 90 other smaller languages with hundred billions of computer users in total?
That's the reason why your approach seems to be a bit odd, if we regard, that implementing support of some open-source spell check engine is far not hard in coding neither demand big conceptual changes in your software
HUN spell checker
I downloaded your latest Atlantis (1.6.5.12) and the new spellchecker . However it could not engage it. Tried through Tools/Option also Format/Language but the Tools/Spell-check still showed English.
How can I get it working now, after I happily found your new HUN spell-check facilities.
Thank you of making it available, but let us now how to use it. Then lots of people would be happy.

Hi Peter,
The Hungarian spellchecker works for me here (for example).
I have installed the latest beta version (http://www.atlantiswordprocessor.com/en/beta/atlantis16en.exe) from http://www.atlantiswordprocessor.com/en/beta/.
I have also downloaded and installed the relevant spellchecker (http://www.atlantiswordprocessor.com/en/beta/spellcheck/atlantis_spellcheck_hu.exe) from http://www.atlantiswordprocessor.com/en/beta/news_1_6_5_012.htm.
After this, you need to click “Format | language…” and choose the Hungarian language for the text you are going to type or for the selection.
HTH.
Cheers,
Robert

Re: HUN spell checker
You can use the "Format | Language..." command of Atlantis to mark selected text as belonging to the Hungarian language. But when you type text in your document, it gets associated with the language of the active keyboard layout in your Windows (you most probably have the English keyboard layout activated in your Windows). This is why any text you type gets marked as belonging to the English language. Of course, Atlantis does not use the Hungarian spellchecker to check texts marked as "English".Peter wrote:I downloaded your latest Atlantis (1.6.5.12) and the new spellchecker . You should either install and activate the Hungarian keyboard layout to your Windows, or choose the "Format | Default Language..." menu command of Atlantis, check the "Associate all new text with the following language" box, then choose "Hungarian" from the drop-down list.
