How to make a file read only?

Will someone please tell me how to make a file read only?

I know it's there somewhere, but I can't find it, now that I need it.

1. In Windows Explorer, right-click the document file that you want to make "read-only".

2. Choose the "Properties..." menu command.

3. Check the "Read-only" box, and click "OK.
