Print PDF Problem

Post by LN108 »

Hi,

I've been using Atlantis now for some three years, and am quite fond of it. A problem I have been having for quite some time, however, is with printing to PDFs. I've tried this on two computers (home desktop and laptop), and I've tried using 4 different PDF printer drivers: the Adobe PDF printer, CutePDF, PDF995, and PDFCreator.

I click on the print icon, select the PDF printer, and then hit OK. The first time I do this, nothing happens. The print menu disappears, and then nothing. Invariably, however, the PDF print works nicely on the second try.

This is a relatively small annoyance, so I've been living with it. But today I have some time so I thought I'd see what's up.

Anyone have any ideas?

As I say, I've tried this on two computers, one Win XP and one Win 7, 64bit.

Howdy,

I've been using the freeware version of PDF Redirect for several years with excellent results. Either from Atlantis or from any other software. I even use it to generate pdf files from Firefox when I want to save some special web page. This is the link to the home page, you can download it right from there. Hope it works for you.

Well, I don't know why the original poster is having this problem.

However, I tested Atlantis with a free PDF driver, PrimoPDF, and it worked fine on the first try. It does take the PDF driver a little while to load and do its work, but it only takes one try. PrimoPDF is the program that I recommend to people who are looking for a high-quality free driver.

Personally, I use a relatively inexpensive commercial program, PDF-XChange, because it is a cheaper equivalent of the Adobe program (MUCH cheaper, and it works well).

But PrimoPDF is great for just creating a PDF file, and you can download the free version here:

The free version is on the left-hand side of the screen when you get to the website.

The original poster doesn't know either, but he's replicated the problem on two different computers using the Adobe PDF printer, also with PDFCreator.

PDFRedirect (free version) seems to work. Curious . . .

Printing PDF

I am wondering if the first try (which does not actually print anything) is just a printer selection and not a print command. I have made this mistake before with programs. I tried to print ... but nothing happened, and then I discovered that I had not actually done anything but make a printer selection.

If your PDF driver is not your default printer, you may be doing nothing the first time except selecting it as your printer.

It's worth checking the steps, anyway.
