Hand written & is a backwards 3 plus line or t.

Post by franklinreid »

In the fonts we have is there one that is the cursive symbol for "and"? Not the ampersand but the symbol for the Latin word "et" which means and. It is usually written as a backwards 3 and a vertical line through it or maybe a lower case t. I'd like to find it in a font to mimic the handwritten one.

Franklin,
Unless I am mistaken again, the character you are talking about is still called an “ampersand”, but it is an older typographic variant. Please have a look at the following pages:

Ampersand
Historical ampersand evolution
Variations of "et"

Now, there are tons of fonts which include such an older typographic variant of the ampersand, in particular the “Symbol” font itself.

Please see attached document “Ampersand Variants.docx”. It shows the ampersand character formatted with many different fonts. No doubt one of them will suit your purpose.
Note that not all the fonts in this document might be installed on your system.

HTH.
Cheers,
Robert
