A tool for adding quote and other marks to paragraphs

Post by franklinreid »

I need a tool for adding quotes and other marks to paragraphs. In writing my books and blogs, I often quote from other sources including the American Founding Fathers, Shakespeare, the Bible, etc.

Later, I realize I need to set that quote between quote marks. I have been using the standard practice adding the opening quote mark at the beginning and a closing quote mark at the end.

It would be very convenient if there was an icon button that would do this automatically. I could just click in the paragraph, click on the icon and on the list would be several choices: double quotes, single quotes, parentheses, square brackets, etc. I would make my choice and Voila! they would appear in the paragraph.

Thanks for a really great program. I have completely switched over from writing my books in Word to Atlantis.

Hi Franklin,
There is no such button (yet) in Atlantis. I personally use the following workaround.
1. Create a RTF Clip Library item containing a pair of opening and closing quote marks. Name it “Curvy Quotes”, for example.
2. When you want to put a fragment of text within curvy quote marks, place the insertion cursor right before the start of that fragment of text.
3. Double-click the “Curvy Quotes” Clip library item. It will automatically be inserted at the current insertion point.
4. Select the fragment of text to be put within quote marks, then use drag & drop to move the selection in between the two quote marks. Alternatively, you can cut the selection to the Windows clipboard, then paste it in between the two quote marks.

You can create as many RTF or pure text Clip Library items as you need to insert double quotes, single quotes, parentheses, square brackets, etc.

Note that RTF Clip Library items are required only if the item contains formatting that would not be saved to a pure text document.
HTH.
Cheers,
Robert
