Particular spellcheck bug ...

Post by JR »

«Exception: Access violation at 005178F4 in Atlantis.exe»

If you right-click on selected/highlighted text that ends with the word Brava!' (with exclamation mark and single 'straight' quotation mark, not a ‘smart’ quotation mark) while Spellcheck-As-You-Type and Underline Misspellings and Ignore all-caps words are selected, then you’ll get the aforementioned Exception. The problem seems to exist with all(?) properly spelled words ending with !' (or ?'), so those particular combinations, and perhaps others, seem to give Atlantis trouble.

To test, simply type Brava!' on a new RTF or DOC document, select it, and right-click (as if you were going to copy it).

This applies to Atlantis version 1.6.6.1 and occurs on two different computers: an oldish one with Windows XP (SP3), and a newish one with Windows 7 (64-bit).

Hi,
This is not happening here.
Could you please open Atlantis, and click “Tools | Factory Settings…”, then launch a test copy of Atlantis with its default settings.
Are you still getting access violation messages when you type, then select 'Brava!'?
If you are, could you please send a sample document containing 'Brava!' as you type it in on your system to support@AtlantisWordProcessor.com?

Could you also please open the “Tools | Options…” dialog, and press the “Save to File…” button at the bottom of the dialog window. Save your current settings to “Atlantis.ini”, and send this “Atlantis.ini” file to support@AtlantisWordProcessor.com.

Thanks.
Cheers,
Robert

Files sent as requested.

The test copy of Atlantis with default settings has the same problem when the Spellcheck options are changed to match those as specified in my original post. The Ignore all-caps words option is the likely culprit, as none of the other sub-options have any negative effect.

Make sure not to put a single quotation mark before Brava!', as you have typed: it's Brava!' not 'Brava!'

Also, the error doesn't appear until you actually right-click on the selected text; just selecting it causes no problems.

You are right. I just reproduced this with “AutoCorrect as you type” OFF. It is happening only with “straight” single quote marks.
No doubt it’ll soon be fixed.
Thanks for reporting this.

The bug does appear to be fixed in Atlantis 1.6.6.2. Thanks.
