Mouse pointer/cursor "I" bar doesn't disappear whe

Post by JR »

Atlantis 2.0.5.0
Windows XP (SP3)

The mouse pointer/cursor "I" bar no longer disappears when I start typing; it remains visible wherever the mouse last placed it. It's supposed to disappear while typing and only reappear when the mouse is moved. Are there any settings/options that may be causing this problem?

The problem exists in all views and all document types.

Sorry, but as far as I know, Atlantis Word Processor never had this feature.

The generic Windows XP Mouse Properties dialog box (Control Panel > Mouse > Pointer options) has an option to "Hide pointer while typing" that I've been using for years. It works with all other text/word processors on my computer and had been working on Atlantis until two days ago. It seems unlikely, but the problem could be with the mouse driver, I suppose. I'll continue troubleshooting.

“Hide pointer while typing” is available in all versions of Windows (Control Panel Mouse Applet). But this option deals with the mouse cursor or mouse pointer. It has nothing to do with the text selection cursor (aka “I-beam” or “I-bar” cursor), which cannot be hidden (while typing). Windows does not provide a method of hiding the mouse text selection cursor. All you can control is the blinking rate of the “I-beam” cursor.

Yes. I don't wish to make the blinking text cursor disappear. As I said, I want the mouse pointer (which appears as a non-blinking "I" bar when in the text window and an arrow when over the menu and toolbars) to disappear when typing.

OK. Understood. “Hide pointer while typing” does work in MS Word and TextMaker, but not in Atlantis or LibreOffice Writer. Sorry, but Atlantis has yet no support for this Windows option. Note that you won’t see the non-blinking "I" bar in Atlantis if, before typing, you move the mouse pointer beyond the right edge of the screen.
