I am forced to use Windows 10 and of course I hate it.
A major problem is it controls my file associations.
I set it in Atlantis but Win10 ignores it.
I finally managed to get RTF associated.
Unfortunatley I have to use MSWord Viewer because my tutor uses it so for a few files she sends me I open them in Viewer to see tutor comments in horrible bubbles down the side..
I can look at file associations for DOC and DOCX
They show MSWord Viewer
but when I click to associate a program it offers me "apps" and a "store".
Atlantis is not there so I cannot select it.
Win10 file association blocks
Do it through Windows 10 File Explorer.
1. Launch Windows 10 File Explorer.
2. Locate any file with the “.docx” extension on your system.
3. Press the Shift key and hold it down.
4. Right-click the DOCX file.
5. Click “Open With…” in the pop-up menu.
6. Click “Choose another app” in the menu, irrespective of whether Atlantis is present or not in that menu.
7. In the new dialog, select Atlantis if it is listed. If Atlantis is not already listed, scroll down the pop-up window, click “More apps” and direct windows to the Atlantis executable.
8. Above all, check the “Always use this app to open DOCX files” option.
9. OK out of the dialog.
Atlantis should be associated with DOCX files from then on.
Repeat steps 2 to 9 for the DOC format, or for any other format that Atlantis can open.

One problem with this that I can see: I've done that, but now when I double click an rtf file if Atlantis has already been opened, Windows starts a new instance of the programme.
Is it not possible to create file associations in Windows in such a way that double clicking causes files to be opened in the active instance of Atlantis?
