Richard Watts ...
I am not going to try to figure out the complexities of what could be going on. I do not possess the knowledge.
But you mentioned the sync with Dropbox.
I use Dropbox for all my data files. I use the Dropbox option to have the files on my computer and also on Dropbox.
When I started learning to use Scrivener (I am still learning!), I read an article that said that saving to Dropbox could cause a problem if you used the default Scrivener save-interval of just a few seconds. The author of the article suggested that a utility called "Boxifier" could solve the problem. Actually, I do not use the default save-interval, so the matter was not really an issue for me. I changed the default to several minutes instead of several seconds. I am also a compulsive file saver because I am old and I remember the days when personal computers had no power backup! And, yes, I remember the cries of despair from women in an office when the power went off for a few seconds.
But I started using Boxifier anyway, because it allowed me to treat a folder outside of Dropbox as if it were in Dropbox. Supposedly, the use of Boxifier circumvented the problem of short-interval saves to Dropbox.
Since you are using Dropbox, I have to wonder if that might be related to the problem in some way. You are keeping several files open (some 900 pages!), along with Corel Draw (a fantastic program, by the way). If you have some files being saved to Dropbox, I could imagine that some issues might arise.
Again, this is all too complex for my knowledge.

Well I did the factory reset, and so far since then have had no problems at all, so thanks for pointing it out, admin (apologies for not using 'test factory settings' first, I read your message after having already reset, but reconfiguring everything as I want didn't take long).
Thanks rstroud as well, you could be right about Dropbox but as I say the problem appears to have gone away, fortunately for me. I too remember the days of saving frequently, especially when using Lotus Smartsuite (to think my first PCs didn't have hard drives, Tandy 286 I think they were).
I remain suspicious about Libreoffice since the issue happened after it messed up Atlantic and I had to reinstall immediately after installing Libre. After installing Libre, Atlantis would not open at all, just got a message saying it was corrupted when attempting to do so. Is it not possible Libre's installer inadvertently removed some of Atlantis's DLLs? A bit of an academic question, perhaps, but the timing was too tight to be coincidence, IMHO.
