overbar notation aka accents

Post by kitimat »

I can't figure out how to do overbar notation in Atlantis. I think what I am looking for is also called accents in latex.

The symbol for a vector (v) is a lower case v in upright boldface type with a right-pointing arrow notation or harpoon above the name.

I can get part way by using a superscript which is above but also to the right.
I need above and not to the right.

see wikipedia entry on vector notation for an example

thanks

Sorry, but this is not (yet) supported in Atlantis. :(

Hi kitimat,

You can achieve something similar to an overbar by using character formatting.

(See the attached image)

1. The arrow and "v" are adjacent, with two spaces after the arrow.
2. I raised the arrow by 6 pt.
3. I selected the "v" and arrow, and compressed the spacing by -6 pt. This stacks them on top of each other.

Note that this works best with fixed-width (non-proportional, monospaced) fonts like Courier New, for example. You might want to have a look at Monospaced font and Samples of monospaced typefaces
If you often need such overbar characters, you can add them to one of your Atlantis Clip Libraries. They can then be inserted with a mouse click. Here is a sample Clip Library item of such an overbar character using the font Consolas:
