Atlants won't back up files

Post by franklinreid »

I am unable to back up a file in the normal way. I have the automatic backup turned on for every two hours. This works great and it has saved me many times. But when I want to Save the file I'm working on with the Save Document (CTRL-S) icon it gives me the error message that:

Error Creating backup file..."locked by another user application"...not "enough free space on the destination drive.

My system is Windows 7 Professional 32 bit and I'm running the latest version of Atlantis, 1. 6.5.5. But to be sure I used the Control Panel tools to deleted the Atlantis program then downloaded install file and then installed the latest version.
I write books and have eight non-fiction books on Amazon now and working on the next one. Most of them are 200-400 pages and I have not had any trouble in the past until today.

I switched from MS Word to Atlantis four books ago and love it. For those tools it lacks I have workarounds for that.

Of course, the first thing to do is to check that there is actually enough free space on the destination drive.

If this is the case, check that the destination folder is not protected in any way. If your backup folder is located on the C: drive outside the authorized folders under “C:\Users\<User Name>\Documents\”, most likely Atlantis won’t be able to write to that location. The default folder for the Atlantis backups is “C:\Users\<User Name>\Documents\Atlantis\Backups”. Unless you have very good reasons not to use this folder, please stick to it.

Also, if you are using “Microsoft Security Essentials” to protect your system, it might help to exclude Atlantis and the various folders it uses from the “real time protection” offered by this utility. Atlantis is a safe application. It does not need to be watched over permanently.
Same thing if you are using a different “Security” application (antivirus, Security Suite, etc.).

If all else fails, you might want to try running “Unlocker” on your system and see what process or application is supposed to block Atlantis from saving your files. Unlocker is available from Unlocker. Be careful to uncheck any bundled adware when you install it. You might also want to read the corresponding Wikipedia page at Unlocker.

HTH.
Cheers,
Robert
