Un-Saving An Unwanted Screen

Post by harolnick »

Lately, I've been unable to "un-save" documents. This is what I mean. I go on Atlantis and find my blank screen. Onto that I might paste a phone number I will need in a few minutes. So I minimize the screen, go back in a few minutes by maximizing the screen (never saving the files), make the call and then close Atlantis....

Except that I can't close Atlantis. Atlantis keeps asking me for the name of that temporary file and won't let me close down until I do. So I'll give it a profanity name and close it.

Later, on the list of files, I can delete it. But all I want to do is use the screen for a few minutes and then say good-bye to that screen.

Any help? Otherwise, all is great. Thanks :(

When you close Atlantis, and there is an unsaved document, Atlantis normally asks you if you want to save it. You have the choice of answering “Yes” or “No”. If you don’t want to save the document, simply answer “No”. Atlantis will close down without asking for a file name:

Now, why not use the Atlantis Clippy Bank (“F8”) to store these temporary notes? Atlantis automatically saves anything you enter into its Clippy Bank, and won’t ask if you want to do so when you exit Atlantis. The Atlantis Clippy Bank is easily cleared of all contents with the dedicated toolbar button, or by pressing “Ctrl+Alt+F8”.

You could also use the Windows “Sticky Notes” utility. Have a look at How To Use Sticky Notes In Windows

HTH.
Cheers.

Many thanks. That box asking me to confirm whether or not I wish to serve is the one (I now realize) which doesn't appear. Maybe I inadvertently checked "Do not show this again"

Anyhow, I'll try to get it back today, unless you happen to know a magical way of restoring that Confirm or Not Confirm box to come out of hiding.

And will look at Clippy.

No hurry. All is working well.

You probably unchecked the following option in “Tools | Options… > General tab > Optional Messages…”:

Please, take a look at Clippy Bank. I personally use the Atlantis Clippy Bank all the time for temporary notes. I have even moved its toolbar buttons to my main Atlantis toolbar.

Wonderful!!! Thanks so much. Never noticed that box before. Worked like a charm. I'll look at Clippy Bank later today, though, as a Bernie Sanders fan, I don't trust any financial institutions very much.

How?!

When I read this thread I was excited to be able to use the Clippy Bank for more than Atlantis saving! Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to get a shortcut on the Atlantis main toolbar. I had hoped that it would be as easy as creating a shortcut or click, drag and drop. I seem to be showing off my mediocrity! Can anybody help? (Moderator may open move this to a new thread.)
