Dear Atlantis,
Is there a way to selectivly turn off some sounds while retaining others?
The "opening" is anoying to me and I would like to turn it off, while the
save doc and other sounds are useful..

Please choose the "Tools | Sounds..." menu command in Atlantis, click the event of interest, then uncheck the "Enabled" check box:
